Referees are not cheats and are not biased, but they make mistakes, that is called being human. "The ref's cheated us" words of Garry Monk...any idea why he wasn't charged geoff? Didn't he accuse Moses of being a cheat, not the referee?

I may be cynical, but could the FA be seen as going 'on the offensive' before Atkinson refereeing us on Sat and an upcoming Arsenal fixture? (Love the Arse comment/put down/dismissal in the Coates statement)

The full sentence was "Moses has cheated the ref and the ref has cheated us". For some reason there was absolutely no media coverage of(I'm guessing it was because it was in his Sky interview rather than the BBC).

Best thing that could have happened - providing of course Coates doesn't just simply lie down and accept a rodgering in the botty.

Referees are not cheats and are not biased, but they make mistakes, that is called being human. That is a very charitable position to take. If they are human then they are capable of bias. I wouldn't go so far as to call them cheats.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them cheats. Referees are human yes, but they should be strong willed and not swayed by media garbage or general opinion. We frequently see poor decisions clearly influenced by preconceived opinions of a player and clear-cut decisions not given as referees try to amend for mistakes made earlier in game.

A committed Stoke fan cannot be a fair judge of a referees performance in a game involving his side because he/she is not impartial.
Any referee wants to officiate at the highest level, therefore it's pretty obvious they all seek to perform to a high standard.
The fact that some referees may favour home sides as always been a problem, if you have 40,000 fans screaming for a decision the referee is almost certainly going to be influenced, that's why crowds do it.
The majority of games I watch show the vast majority of officials to be good, if you want perfection then you need video technology but that's another story.

The majority of games I watch show the vast majority of officials to be good, if you want perfection then you need video technology but that's another story. it isn't perfection people want geoff, it's consistency and quite simply there is very very little of that displayed by ref's week in, week out up and down the country! it isn't just a stoke fan problem and it isn't just a fan problem hence the reason why the newspapers, Sky, MOTD, many many managers and the rest of the media constantly highlight poor and inconsistent refereeing decisions. for you to just brush it off as "You're biased because you're a fan" just shows the lack of real world knowledge you have about the game and the overall problem that many people in the profession have highlighted over many many years now, as unfortunately you tend to do nothing other than google your opinions. the FA are a joke and have widely been thoughtof as such for a long, long time now by virtually everyone involved in the game in England. they complain about FIFA and their reluctance to display the full report into the WC scandals and their lack of transparency, yet seem to think it's absolutely fine to charge players with offences and not specify the particular rules broken (things like "Violent conduct" for example which encompass several different rules that can be broken), they can charge managers, directors or owners and not explain what specifically has led to the charge in the first place. they feel no need to justify their decisions to NOT charge people who do (at the very least) extremely similar things to what others HAVE been charged for and consistently deny anyone the right to question the ability of any referee. until the FA are transparent about what people can or cannot do and until they accept that if THEY can criticise managers and players with impunity then it is only right and fair that they too and their employees (i.e. referees) can also be criticised for a lack of consistency and overall ability to fairly judge a game and the decisions made within that game. they act as if they and the refs are untouchable in exactly the same way that Blatter and FIFA behave like gods who cannot be questioned. until they come up to date and start trying to exist in a modern, 21st century society where people have the freedom of speech (i for instance am perfectly entitled to have my right to reply with my boss if he criticises any of my work or if indeed i feel his behaviour is inappropriate and his disciplining of staff is inconsistent) without the worry of judgment or punishment. they are archaic, egocentric and unbelievably obtuse in virtually everything they do whilst upholding the pretence that they are some kind of paragon of virtue by standing up to FIFA who always act in a consistent, fair and impartial way and it just isn't the case at all. referees are supposed to be there to judge a game by the rules set down in a fair, impartial and most importantly, consistent manner. if they do not do this (which they regularly do not hence MOTD and several papers highlighting the Shawcross pen incident against many other incidents that occurred the very next day and then the weekend after where NO-ONE was punished for exactly the same offence and countless managers over the years complaining publically about the lack of consistency and favouring "Big teams" and being influenced by the crowd) then it isn't just a case that people should be able to question the referees ability to remain consistent and impartial, it is absolutely necessary that people should do this. if we are supposed to accept that referees cannot be questioned or you will be charged then we living in a very sorry footballing world and one that in which a change is long, long overdue.

Gary Monk is a young English manager who is currently flavour of the month.
The FA, due to the press, are limited to only being able to pick from English managers for the England job in future. Therefore they don't want to put any black mark against one of their potential future managers. A slap on the wrists was therefore deemed acceptable. They couldn't do nothing to a manager who had called a referee a cheat so fudged it as they do all decisions - eg, Shearer assaulting Lennon before world cup, Ya Ya Toure kicking out at the Norwich player last year.
The FA are corrupt from top to bottom - anyone who gets in bed with Jack Warner is by definition corrupt themselves.
Peter Coates will just get off with a warning about his future conduct.

I think its great that Peter has stood up and said what he has said the fact that they have charged him just shows how much we have got under the FA's skin initially they patronised us paid out on us being relegated before Xmas they have tried ignoring us with the England Manager ignoring our players and not coming to our games. Then this charge against Peter who has probably done more for its club and its area than any other Premier Chairman and saying that our managers influence is on the wane.
Do they not realise they are playing into our hands "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" to prove it we consistently beat the leagues top teams and finish in the top ten
God I love Stoke.
Cum arn Arsenal Utd Liverpool its your turn next!

Gary Monk.....a future England Manager??????? I respect your suggestion about the FA fella, but he cant 'manage' a smile most of the time. The day he is even considered for the England role is the day football dies, and its papering over the cracks for YEARS Hes just not very good at managing anything is he..? He needs to look up the definition of the word and take a step back and look at how much of a tit hes making himself look

Firstly sorry for shouting I was talking about the powers that be ie The media, the bookies (other than Bet365) the FA and anybody else you care to mention. I've always thought maybe wrongly that when I say I am from Stoke people look down on me or feel sorry for me and that has just made me stronger and want to prove the B*stards wrong.

We can either have a sensible discussion Jamo about the problems faced by referees and try to understand the pressures they are under, or we can see the whole thing only from the perspective of Stoke City. I have not met many supporters of clubs who think referees are on their side, so Stoke fans are no different in that respect. I'm not sure exactly what Peter Coates has said, but anyone suggesting bias will trigger a reaction from the F.A.. Regarding Gary Monk, I think he was fortunate to get away with what he said, but I don't think he called referees cheats but suggested the action of Moses caused the referee to make a mistake and therefore cheat us. The idea that the F.A. are going to be 100% correct or consistent in their decisions is fantasy, but like referees they tend to get it right in the majority of cases. The difference is Geoff ,refs make split second decisions the FA have days to get it wrong.

Will he get a touchline ban? I hope so - at his age he shouldn't be standing around the technical area in our winter at a windy stadium on a hill like the Brit! Oh right, so you're a big fan of age discrimination are you? Disgraceful. They should lock you up and throw away the key for that.
