Sincere condolences mate - your tribute is virtually an identikit description of my stoke experience, except my old fella is still kicking and attending matches with me. That lovely post has reminded me to treasure match days with him and not take them for granted.

What wonderful words that probably reflect the experience of many of us. Im sure the shared experience of 'your club' will always mean the bond will be there whenever you are at the match. R.I.P

What a lovely, touching tribute.
My dad also died aged 84 2 tears ago and took me to my first Stoke game and the Ajax game to which you refer so I feel your pain.

This is a wonderful post, and so much of what is said here brings back memories of my dad who introduced me to the Vic back in 1963. Our dads were an integral part of a very special generation. They were fighters (just ask Adolf, and he'll confirm that), they were gentlemen and they were generous with their time and their love.
There was always an aroma of pipe and cigar smoke swirling around the ground back then, and somehow this aroma brings them all back in my mind.
Honestly mate, it DOES get easier to deal with as the years pass by, but your dad will always be right there where it counts.
In your heart, and at SCFC
Best post I have read on here in ages. Thanks to you and your dad for making my Saturday morning.

Very moving tribute, lost my own Dad 10 years ago, it still hurts and not a day goes by without me thinking of him, lost my Mum a couple of months ago and that's still quite raw.
As others have said, so many similarities in your tribute with my own life. I would have given anything to have had my Dad with my 2 lads and me at Wembley and my Mum would've absolutely loved the 'Marvelous' film.
With time things get a little bit easier.
RIP and sincere condolences.

A fine tribute indeed - the Ajax match you mention was one of the few my dad took us to as youngsters and I wish he'd had more of an enduring interest. You have some great shared footballing memories - condolences fellah.

Good evening fellow Stokies.
I have read all your kind comments and sentiments and behalf of my mum and family - a huge Thank You to all of you.
A pity the lads didn't deliver 3 more points today, but there's always the next game!
Thanks again.

So sorry to hear of your loss, thanks for letting us know - and what a beautiful tribute to your dad, and to his fellow Stokies. You missed out one thing though: he also had a son to be very proud of.
RIP sir
