The Telegraph review Peaky Blinders, series 5 episode 1, review: The Brummie gangster drama comes back bloody, blazing and bawling linkOverall I thought it was a little bit below the standard of series 4 but it was setting the scene for the rest of the series. As there are only 6 episodes though I was hoping for a little bit more in the first episode. I'll watch it again before watching tonight's second episode though. Glad it's back but a 6 part series is never long enough - you're just really enjoying it and it's finished ! There could have been a longer scene with Polly and the pilot though Glad to see Arthur letting loose on the reporter in the lift right at the end

Thought it was a bit poor TBH, but I am sure new stories and characters will keep me interested. Did anyone notice Tommy's dog , belonged to Alfie Solomon, one of the best non Shelby characters of previous seasons. Will be interesting to see how the Oswald Mosley storyline develops.

Really enjoyed Episode 2. Factually very interesting, The Billy Boys had strong links to Oswald Mosely and The Fascists, even to this day Rangers sing " Hello Hello, we are The Billy Boys."

I'm hooked as always. Great episode last night..... Sometimes it's almost laughable, and I hate when the Blinders strut into a meeting in slow motion, but then it comes out with a great scene like last night and I find myself saying "fucking brilliant" out loud.

I agree, that's the thing with a great TV series though it doesn't have to be polished to within an inch of its life or perfect in every way. The dialogue can be occasionally iffy, as can the accents but the overall aesthetics and the strength of the characters and the performances from the cast makes it a great watch as far as I'm concerned.

CGI Apparently www.irishmirror.ie/showbiz/irish-showbiz/peaky-blinders-thomasshelby-cillianmurphy-seasonfive-19005632I think the horse may well get the best actor award! That new character Finn is a dreadful actor & evey time Peggy comes in shot, she thinks she’s in an Ultravox video. At least they have finally got two actors with proper Brummie accents in Tommy’s kids...

Finn's been in like the last 3 seasons in his current guise?

I've had some issues with it over the years, it's always much better when they focus on dirty, domestic plots. Both the Russia series and the American Gangster series last year were just a bit too "out-there" at times for me when the 20s was such a fascinating time in the UK for internal politics. Anyway, this season has been very decent so far and I've enjoyed it. I've got a major nitpick though, Tommy and Mosley being on the opposition bench in the Commons when as a Labour MP he'd be on the other side (Ramsay McDonald was PM in October 1929). You can tell by the orientation of the mace, it's fucking annoying me every scene they show it. It's like a few years ago when Winston Churchill asked his British troops how many were veterans of Verdun where about 10 British medical staff happened to serve....(just use Ypres?)
