Yep let's get rid of whelan who was man of the match and also crouch who was the only player to have any attempts at goal. Great idea Yeah apart from diouf AND moses, apart from them he was the only player to have an attempt at goal.

Unusual, but I don't think I agree with anything in that OP of yours, Albert.

Considering Whelan is being classed as a defensive midfielder on here, he does spend a lot of time with the ball at his feet in the oppositions half, and with very little quality to produce something, not even a half decent shot at goal, for away matches I can see the benefit, but for a home match against 10 stubborn defenders, with no room, abit more quality is needed to create something, his passing is very accurate but not enough key passes or goal threat from him, Adam needs to start next home match, and play last half n hour v QPR

Whelan is playing better than he has ever done at Stoke...........which isn't saying a lot so let's have an upgrade!

I thought Crouch was good again yesterday. Won a lot in the air, bought the ball down well when he could and laid it off. In fact I've not really seen him have many bad games for us when he's actually had support around him. Love John Walters, but how he was picked ahead of Arnie to play on the wing is beyond me.. He's just not a premier league winger...
I've been a big critic of Whelan but admit that he's come on leaps and bounds under Hughes. I think he'll play a big role for us against the top sides and away from home... But at home against "supposedly" lower teams... I'd like us to try N'zonzi and either Adam or Ireland in midfield....

I didn't think Whelan was too bad. Thought he did his best.
Crouch got a bit of a beasting from the Leicester defenders.
Thought the Walters selection was a really poor one, possibly the nail in the coffin for me. I've always supported Walters, but he just didn't cut it on Saturday.

Whelan's best is not good enough - not if we want to progress in this league.
Glenn gets praise for his work effort which is justified, but what he actually brings to the game is minimal. All he actually does is pass the ball sideways or backwards, or close down the opposition. Some may argue that this is important to allow the other more attack-minded players to function, but I believe that players that perform this task at this level should have more quality and be able to offer more to the team, even if they are confined to a defensive role. As a DM Whelan is not particularly good at that - when he does make a tackle it usually results in a free kick to the opposition. As for going forward, unless you want to pass it from one side of the pitch to the other he is virtually useless.
He is a grafter, so like with SJW there will always be an element of the Stoke support who will want him in the team as 'he always gives 100%', but I think we need more.
As for using Sat's MOM for justification, it was his 200th game so it was always on the cards, and with us losing with a performance where no-one stood out, it was a no-brainer
As for Walters, his inclusion on Sat puzzled me no end - I just do not see why he was picked and then continued to stay on the pitch for so long? I could understand the tactic v Man City away, but Leicester at home? He offered us absolutely nothing.
I like Crouch, top player who has his uses and long may he continue to offer them to Stoke, but I don't see him starting every game for us this season.
Therefore I agree with the OP.

I'm pretty sure one of Bego's clearences was meant to be a shot too, just didn't have the wind in his favour. But apart from all those Crouch was the only one to have an attempt at goal.

Crouch hasn't scored since March which is a very poor record for our main centre forward who cost £15 million.

Many focusing on Albert mentioning Whelan and Crouch, but few in support of Walters I see. I take it they agree, as I do, that he has no place in our first choice team, especially at home? His inclusion on Saturday was baffling. We had to avoid Leicester doing a Villa, yet set about the task in exactly the same way. Walters offers nothing going forward from out wide and Arnie simply had to start.
As for Crouch, the limitations of using him as a loan striker were exposed on many occasions last season, yet here we were again, hitting long balls up to him and hoping something dropped. Diouf must play, either instead of or with him. I can see why MBD was rested after an arduous week, but playing Crouch seems to affect how others play - like having him there is too good an opportunity to miss, so we just pump balls up to him.
As for Whelan, I'd like to see either Glenn or SNZ must make way for Adam in home games against the lesser teams where we need to drive forward from midfield and support the strikers, even have a few shots on goal!! Both of them sit too deep too much and play sideways/in front of the opposition.
I agree with Albert that these three should be phased out - Walters for sure right now, Crouch to be used as a plan B not plan A, and Whelan to be alternated with Adam, Sidwell and SNZ in search of the right combination for particular games.
