only curious on the basis that in most all other walks of life if you were to pick up a work place injury that prevented you from earning your living it would be your employers insurance that would foot the bill, but i doubt that football follows the same rules, not that it would really matter given the vast sums premier league footballers earn Got it, its a good question to which I don't know the answer. I am sure it is technically possible to insure any footballer however well paid against loss of earnings from a career threatening injury but perhaps it would have to be handled individually rather than through your club since the real issue would only arise once you were off contract and unable to get another one owing to your injury. Either way I imagine it may be prohibitively expensive I'm sure this is something the players union the PFA would know all about and they may have their own lawyers and programs, I bet there is a ton of stuff on their web site about this come to think of it.

Peter, if you're reading this, do ignore so many gloomy predictions and try to be your usual cheery self.
Apart from seeing the accident, I recall your getting off the team coach, at Hull, with your usual cheery wave and smile, both of which will be much missed, temporarily.
I feel sure all the lads and staff will be initially visiting you and then helping you on your way to recovery, at the training ground and gym.
Think the best and leave the worst for others. You've been a popular beacon of liveliness and so many best wishes go with you, including mine. So ignore the doom mongerers and think only of the months ahead leading to full fitness.
Keep your chin up. Hope to see you around.

Peter does appear to be a bright light with a wonderful attitude, and this injury is such bad news when he appears to have found his home. Stoke have excellent medical staff, and hopefully his positive attitude will bring him back early in the new year. Not actually that far away now…..!!!

Spoke to Peter today through the trees at the training ground. He was his usual cheerful and friendly self, he really is one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet. He was chatting away while a bloke was waiting to drive him out and told me it will probably be 5 months at least before he will be back training. The swelling still hasn't gone down so he can't have his op on his ACL till then. He went into detail over the op as there are different procedures but it all went a bit over my head. I wished him all the best and said we will miss him.

The Sentinel reported earlier that he's already had his op?

No definately not. He'll presumably be on crutches when he's had the op and he was just limping across the car park at the training road when I spotted him.I think he'd just been in to have the swelling checked by our medics. The sentinel have got their facts wrong, now there's a first!!

SentinelStrange the quotes from Bowen if he hasn't had the op. Yes indeed. Given Bowen said this you have to either conclude that Odemwingie has had the operation or that Bowen is clinically insane: "The operation seems to have gone well, which is obviously great news," said Bowen, "and it always helps a recovery when you've got someone of Peter's great spirits."

Perhaps he lives in some sort of time/space continuum, but always talks in the present tense, even thought describing things to come. So, Good News!!!

If Wingie has had his op then that suggests that the swelling from the original injury went down quicker than Hughes expected when he made his comments. Good news, perhaps Wingie is a quick healer. I remember Wayne Thomas recovering ridiculously quickly from his CL op when he was at Burnley.
My mum had an ACL op (fell down some steps) at roughly the same time as her sister. My aunt recovered months more quickly than my mum - people do react differently to surgery.
Fingers crossed that Wingie is a "quickie".

If he plays again this season I would be amazed, but thats not the important thing, the main thing is that he comes back near enough the same player and can continue his career.
