Yeah he did. To be fair the whole team were more than happy to let him have the ball and plenty of responsibility so it seems the players rate him as well as the gaffer. Everybody loves him. Manager and players alike. I posted only a couple of weeks ago how he was given a standing ovation from the manager after his first training session with the first team and the rest of the staff and all the players followed suit. Apparently, in that session, he was outstanding. He is 16 years old and he is a local boy. I posted how we would say him take to the field in a first team game before the season was out. Little did I know it would be in the first few weeks of the season. He looked confident and the players looked confident in him, giving him the ball at every opportunity. Adam, Shawcross and Huth also looked genuinely pleased to see him come on which was nice. I can only echo what Jamo said as to his ability. His confidence and willingness to be involved bodes well and in his 10 minute spell he has already shown to have considerably more ability than Messrs Ness, Edu and Shea. Good news for the boy, good news for our academy and credit to Mark Hughes and the management team for not being afraid to chuck him in. For me the most pleasing thing to come out of last night was this lad getting some game time. I will admit I didn't know much about him, which I have since rectified. For a local kid of 16 from Blythe Bridge to be allowed to play for a Premier league team in a Cup Match is a fantastic achievement for him, his family and the Club. Great credit to all concerned. I was especially pleased to hear he was looking for the ball straight away, tells you a lot already. I hope for a few things; we don't loan him out, he is mentored and brought on in the same way Everton have shown they can do with their young talent, and that if he does get some game time in Premier matches, everyone gets behind him, even if he doesn't play well. Of course there will be extra pressure on him, but it sounds to me that so far he is handling it pretty well. For the Club, I think MH selects his teams on merit and not favouritism, which gives the whole squad a chance. I would say his family are bursting with pride this morning.

It may seem a strange question, but is he a Stoke fan? You never know these days!
It would be great to have a local lad of true quality burst through into the First Team in the next couple of years.

Really good to see a local lad make his debut for us, it seems like ages since that happened.
Am I right in saying that it seems that more local lads end up at the Vale whilst we are casting our net further afield?

Played well from the ten minutes he was on the pitch, had 1 misplaced pass, good display for a young lad, didn't look out of place at all, hopefully get some minutes at Sunderland if we can take the lead again.

He is yes. It's probably why we were able to sign him because a lot of other Prem clubs were interested in him.

I was hoping he may have been a Shenton from my home town of Uttoxeter but he'll do!

Blythe High lad...year above my lad...Although he doesn't know him my lad says he was shit hot at school. Blythe has got more Cosmopolitan in recent years then? It is normally Painsley that produces the sporty types...That said my Nephew used to play for the SCFC academy.and was from BBHS

Interesting to see how quickly he gets a sniff of England age group caps. Must be every chance of a call-up. It's ages since we had a genuine prospect If he was at arsenal last nights appearance would see him in the full squad for the Norway game Only if it didn't clash with his treatment program at the Brittle Bone clinic!

Would I be right to say that Karl Henry was the last Stoke player to gain England age group caps? No. Sam Coulson got an U-18 cap last season and Nat Wedderburn got one in the same age category before him .

I know we shouldn't get carried away. I know young players should be nurtured carefully. I know the Premier League is a very difficult league for seasoned pros let alone a youngster.
But......
.....this thread genuinely has me more excited than the Bojan one did and even the Yarmolenko one.
I can't think of anything better than a young homegrown striker who may just turn out to be something very special. I know there's a long way to go, and I remember Dean Crowe, but fck it....can't we dream a bit??!!
I've read Davejohnno's post four of five times and the hairs on the back of my neck were in full on tingle mode. Imagine a 16 year old clapped off at training by the players of the club he supports....the superstars of the Premier League club he supports.
Very, very exciting.

Couldn't make last night as late finishing from work. Anyone tell me If the centre backs were launching it forward to crouch?
Surprised to see possession at about 51% with 20 odd chances. We've been up to 60 odd percent possession in first couple of games.

Well done Ollie. Very proud of him tonight. Fantastic talent as a 10 year old and to break in to the first team 6 years later absolutely wonderful. Great to see some of his family tonight watching his debut. All the best for future and thank you for sticking with Stoke, your team. Don't suppose you know what his old man's name is do you? I grew up in Blythe and knew a Grant Shenton back in the day. I grew up in forsbook and knew who grant Shenton was back in the day by face but not to talk to,didn't he have a brother?100% sure they were from caverswall.Anyway I was talking to a mate at work this morning who knew quite alot about his family and he told me his dad's name is Greg.We probably know each other,I left Blythe high in 86.

He's a midfielder Foxy and seemingly a goalscoring midfielder. According to his dad he felt 10ft tall this morning and was absolutely beaming. (I had this from a pal who knows the family) They are a typical Stoke family and this boy has his feet firmly planted on the ground. He has played above his age group since the age of 11 and everyone has very high hopes for him.

If he's local, a Stokie and good enough that'll do for me. Thanks for the insight. More than a hint of Roy of the Rovers. Fingers crossed he can go all the way!!

Just on here where sometimes he's had stick for being played out of position which Admittadley was unfair on the lad. Shotton the right back will be very decent for derby. Shotton the winger may aswell go Gateshead

There is a bit of a history of local lads getting plenty of stick.

Thing is, we need to remember a few things we are depressingly known for.
If the kid makes mistakes don't groan and get behind him. We are supporters after all.
Don't think he's going to be the next messi and expect him to be a world beater. Let him prove himself. Let's not pile to much pressure on him. The numbers say it won't work but let's all hope to god it does and give him the chances to prove it.
What's happened with diouf and bojan has been mind numbing to watch and listen to. We shouldn't treat this kid in the same way.
I think some his confidence came from the crowd last night. We were great. Let's carry on in the same way.
This kid could go on to become the poster boy, he's one of us!
G'oarn stoke!
