We were probably on more in the Durban promotion season - "Randall's in here!" - than at any other time, until our return to the top tier. Yes, I am sure that is true. "Randall's in here!" who could forget that Randalls in here...Randalls in here 2 nil!!!!

It was just what I expected. The BBC wallowing in a load of self congratulation supported by a load of media seeking sycophants. If you blinked in the wrong place you would have missed a Conroy goal. I must have done because I didn't see Crouchy's goal. Come on you miserable git, that was a good tribute to a great programme. Don't get too caught up in the myth that motd hates stoke, it doesn't and we saw the Conroy while a lot of other great clubs were ignored completely. Apologies if I came across as Victor Meldrew, but I contend it was a poor tribute to a great programme. Instead of an analysis of how the programme, the game, technology, the rules, and various aspects of televising have evolved over half a century, the programme concentrated on sound bites from all the people involved telling us how great everyone else was/is at doing their job and plaudits from celebrities/viewers. The only one worth listening to was the little lad in the street. We did get loads of goals but poorly presented IMO with virtually no build up play, apart from a few instances. I am not a tunnel vision Stokie and didn't expect to see much of Stoke; I did expect to see something more of the Revie Leeds era and people like Eddie Gray, or more of other talents down the last 50 years, after Greaves and Best, and highlights of great teams during the last 50 years. (e.g. Arsenal double side, Liverpool sides 72 - 91) There was a small item on goal keeper saves bit little on outstanding defending. I agree clubs were completely ignored that have been champions during the last 50 years, Everton, Derby, Forest, Villa. I didn't expect a detailed history of football over the last 50 years in a 1 hour tribute programme, but I am entitled to expect some balance and a lot more of what has been broadcast over 50 years. The coverage was,as usual, heavily biased towards the most recent years. I don't mind listening to the footballers and the views of MOTD leading broadcasters, in moderation, but I draw a line at listening to constant drivel from self-centred celebrities. I paid my licence to turn on a programme about 50 years of MOTD, not to listen to banter between Alan Sugar and Piers Morgan. (Rant over.)

yeah, I don't think you can complain too much about us not featuring much on this nostalgic show. In truth before the last 6 years we have never been a big part of MOTD. The period of time which Des Lynam, Ian Wright, Piers Morgan and David Beckham are all wanking over coincided with the quarter of a century we spent washing around in the wilderness in the old Divisions 2 and 3 when we never appeared on the show at all. Before that there were only ever 2 games shown and I don't have to tell you we were rarely the editors pick. Sorry Gods, I don't really agree with that. I'd say that for the first 10 years of MOTD we got our fair share of coverage and maybe a bit more. From the mid 60s to the mid 70s we were prominent. I think a lot was to do with Waddo who was widely respected in the game. Then we had Banks during the period when he was in his prime and made THAT save from Pele. We were not quite as popular as the top teams who won titles but we were often regarded as the "best of the rest". The print media, especially the broadsheets, often used to enthuse about us in full and half page articles. Considering that there was no internet, I was well pleased with the media coverage we got in my teens and early 20s. Then the Butler Street Stand roof blew off, the world stopped, and we got off for a while ....................

Nice to hear Barry Davies brought back for the Palace v West Ham commentary, I presume it's part of the anniversary as I thought he had retired. Anyway, he was my favourite commentator as he didn't really show any bias(not that I thought anyway) and he seemed much more animated yet still remained calm unlike Motson who still screeches now. Think Davies also used to do athletics and even Wimbledon tennis which got me interested in what I thought were boring sports to start with.

I thought it was a good programme and to be honest didn't expect much of us to be on but did you notice the Geordie fan on there saying that they are always the team that came on last? It would be interesting if there were stats showing which team are actually top of the Last on the show list.
I bet it would be us.

Makes you realise how shite the commentators are now. The only one who comes close is Martin Tyler. Barry Davies shits on any commentator...he is like Les Dawson/Eric Morecambe compared to Russell Brand/Noel Fielding/Phil Jupitus. .simply light years ahead, even now.

If you're not one of the big boys and you're in a shit, low-scoring game, you're going to be on last. No conspiracy or anti-Stoke agenda.

Hey Lakeside, so did you see the splendid article in the Leicester edition of the fanzine on this topic? No one likes a clever dick but it substantiated my argument in spades. *Only 58 appearances in total in all competitions in 28 years prior to the formation of the Premier league. An average of 2 games per season *They showed the 5-0 win against Arsenal in 1970 and then didn't show us again for fully 12 months and we didn't win again in the league on the show for a gob smacking 5 years until we beat Arsenal again 1-0 at Highbury in 1975 So 5 years of the glory days of Waddo and not a single win on MOTD *No appearance at all in calendar year 1968 and only 1 in the whole of calendar 1971 *In fact we only ever won 12 times in total in the league in the top flight on MOTD in it's history before our recent return to the Prem. Contrast all that with 231 appearances since we got promoted in 2008. Had this site been in place back in the 60's and 70's and 80's it would have been World War 3 on here with folks firing off emails to Jimmy Hill and co. like they were going out of fashion

I think people are comparing apples and pears.
There was very little TV coverage of football in the 60 and early 70s. Only a few matches were chosen to be covered, not like today when every match has cameras.
