Hopefully the player who said it was watching the programme last Thursday and is now thoroughly ashamed of himself. It is a word I detest, not least because one of my cousins had a daughter with Downs Syndrome - a sweet little girl who died a few years back. I think people in general were less 'enlightened' 15 or 20 years ago than they are now. It was probably always a minority who were nasty enough to use the word **** as a term of abuse but I think that sort of inconsiderate behaviour was more tolerated than it is now. Like racism, that sort of abuse still exists but the number prepared to speak out against it is now much higher - thank god.

He was born in Hammersmith - did the family move back to Stoke or did he spend a lot of time up there with relatives? He doesn't normally have a Stoke accent in real life but, with his dad being a Stokie, you'd expect him to be able to do a good one. Not sure if this has already been mentioned,Tobys'dad,Freddie Jones plays Sandy in Emmerdale. So my missus tells me. Freddie was at the Stoke premiere with Toby

Tweeted by Greg McHugh who played the part of Malcolm: @gregjmchugh: In Glasgow and getting so many questions about #Marvellous don't think I've experienced such a warmth towards a project. #peoplelikejoy The top man at Tiger Aspect, who made the film, phoned me today to say that in 20 years of making TV drama he has never experienced anything like this. The Commissioning editor at BBC 2 has emailed to say something similar. She got that commissioning decision right, didn't she !! I think they all knew they had got a good film which would hopefully get good reviews, but no-one expected the massive level of interest and almost universal praise which has been unleashed since it was broadcast. Edit - Extract from her email :- We continue to be deluged by calls and emails to the BBC from people in every walk of life, all saying how much they enjoyed the film, and how inspiring they found it. I feel very proud that we have been able to tell Neil's story and that Marvellous has touched so many lives.

Malcolm, I know this will embarrass you, but I feel that it needs to be said that as well as Neil and Lou, you come out of the last few days with great credit. Your friendship with Neil was a central theme to the film and was one of the most uplifting aspects of it.

I have always said I have gained more out of my friendship with Neil than he has, and I genuinely believe that. Plenty of laughs, that's for sure ! It seems quite extraordinary but next week it will be 50 years since that first meeting re-created in the film. If someone had told me on that day that half a century later, all this would be happening, I would have told them to take a lie down !

In this day and age, it is getting more unusual for friendships to last 50 years. I suppose it is a sad side effect of our 'modern' society!

Photo of the year... Does it end with Ryan driving him home? I think they are negotiating whether the executive car taking Nello home, would have a chauffeur in plain clothes or full uniform.

As a comment it can make sense when speaking about someone who has a life of constant pain or loss of dignity and who wants death as a release. But, contrary to what a lot of people think, a Downs Syndrome child can not only live a fulfilling life but also enrich the lives of those who love and care for them.

They most certainly can Lakeland. Because if you look beyond the disability there is a personality and that's what shone through with Nello. Personality is what defines an individual and is as rich and varied in people with Downs Syndrome as it is amongst the population at large. That's why 'Marvellous' has been a Universal hit and struck a chord with so many because people have looked beyond the disability and seen the personality. Wonderful..uplifting stuff. Marvellous.

Finally managed to watch it last night ...not ashamed to admit that I shed a tear or two but what a brilliant hour and a halfs watching that was.
A credit to EVERYONE who was involved in the making of that.
Ive never met the guy but would love to one day - WHAT A MAN !
I know that there was a thread a few days ago about making the Swansea game a celebration of Nellos time with the club etc. but is that official or just a suggestion put on here...?
Is there ANYTHING confirmed ....?
I would bust a gut to get to that one

I am pretty sure it was until 1997, went we went to the new ground "Giff"took over the duties, Nello hated Jez Moxey as it was him who got rid off him according to Nello.

Lots of clown face paining to get the kids involved and, hopefully, appearances by many of the people involved in the film - on both sides of the camera.
