Out and about in Manchester today and got speaking to a few locals, not the Southern based ones may I add.
When mentioning my team I was immediately asked if I knew " Nello" the blokes a star.

Yeah marvellous was said 3 or 4 times mainly in the beginning. He called Jimmy Greenhoff marvellous and I think he said it when eating breakfast with the vicar

Thanks The line that sticks in my head was "he's a very good friend of mine" The best line in the entire film was the 'anyone but Port Vale' one We all have our favourites. Mine are * "donna worry mum, it's only a testimonial" when she cried tears of pride when he told her that he was going to play for Stoke and he misinterpreted it as her crying about what it would do to the team * " do you feel better for our little chat, Mark" turning the tables on the vicar * " I tend to think of the Church of England having a lower moral code" to explain her act of getting the vicar to steam open the letter rather than doing it herself * " That puts you three up on most church of england vicars I know" * " If you don't mind me saying, that's very much a kit man's point of view" - about the shorts. * " of ye, of little faith" to the disbelieving doorman........."matthew 14" * " She wears bifocals, and i don't think either of them are right" - when the doctor is shining the light into her eyes. Actually, there's dozens, aren't there. Pete Bowker's brilliance.

There were some right ugly buggers making cameo appearances though don't you think

Great TV, made me extra proud as a Keele postgrad too! Shone a good light on the whole city... nice of Crewe to lend Gresty Road to the filming too!
Anyone else notice them playing "he scores goals he scores goals Odemwingie" chants during the testimonial? ;D

"No not the front, that’s me bishops and archbishops, there’s space at the back for regular clergy" "I’ve got’em all in there, Desmond Tutu, Terry Waite, Rowan Williams, Jimmy Greenhoff!" I want a T-Shirt with "there's space at the back for regular clergy" written on it

Absolutely loved every minute of it. Actually really enjoyed the group at the start doing Delilah. So fitting.
Incidentally, when he shoved the chocolate eggs in the basket and the shop assistant told him no: "but eggs are food for you" just an amazing innocence.

It was a little odd scfcno1fan but since "I" don't do anything in the film which I'm embarrassed or ashamed about, it's fine. I said to Greg that it was odd seeing him play me, to which he replied that it was odd for him because he'd never played anyone before when the "real" person was standing at the side watching ( and if I was unhappy about the portrayal to go and see the Director, because he was only playing me how the Director told him !). My daughter put a picture on facebook of her and Greg with a "with my dad" caption which was a bit bizarre. My wife told him that "it has been great being married to you all these years" !! I confess that I hadn't heard of Fresh Meat until this happened, but GMcH looks very different in that and his character in that is a bit weird isn't he ? But of course all this is as nothing compared to Toby playing Neil with Neil watching almost every day. Not to mention Lou and Tony Curran. Lots of talk about Toby Jones (rightly so) but I thought Greg McHugh was excellent in his role - how though did you feel about it? BTW - Greg made his name up here with Gary, Tank Commander, which if you haven't seen (because, possibly, the BBC refused to show it outside Scotland) I recommend you take a look. It's excellent; try this wee clip... Good luck converting the Oatcake to Gary Tank Commander, Partick ! I never even picked up on the fact it's the same person...duh!

Read virtually every one of those forums. What a bunch of sad, bitter twats west brom are. Can't really see a problem with it. 100% of people commenting on the film itself on that thread are completely positive. Yes it goes off on a tangent with a debate about the relative merits of WBA and Stoke City as football teams and the areas in which they reside but I can imagine if this were an equivalent film with WBA at it's heart then exactly the same thing would happen on this message board. You know it would!

I wonder if Jimmy Greenhoff's autograph was at the front of Neil's bible along with the bishops and archbishops given his God like status amongst Stokies.
