Un ITK on le Rennes messageboard is claiming he's off there for what it's worth, and they seem to think he knows what he's on about. One of the others says 'I love it when you loose small bombs on the forum like this, glad to see that things are moving at last!" Be a bit of a blow if he didn't turn up after this! Rennes MB So to be clear what I'm told is that the coming of the Portuguese striker is done after it was me who told him Nelson oliveira and said yes that's right . I honestly have not heard anything about these players, but the Portuguese is on loan with option to purchase.Check this fella's avatar on the Rennie messageboard to see if it declares "Je suis le point de vue de Dave" (if that's wrong, blame Google Translate!)... if it doesn't then Kitkatkev recently announced he was "off on holiday"... The plot thickens...

John Percy saying we are confident this will be sorted soon. You'd think that would be that, but you never know with us. If this is the case, I hope he isn't the only forward we bring in, we need someone more prolific (we don't need to go down that ridiculous road suggesting he is again).

Option to buy is maybe something that could be negotiated during the season, good news though looks like its done.

So if he has signed what have we signed?? Does he play as the last man or is he the creative spark behind the main striker. His goal scoring record doesn't stand out!!!

On a Portuguese website I saw comment that in, for example, a 4231 formation he can play in any of the "3" positions but not the "1" position. i.e. he is not a number 9/centre forward

So he could play the modern day unconventional wing position then?? If that is the case then its a thumbs up from me. Not sure whether there would be a preference on left or right? He does seem to be highly regarded but the general perception from the media is he needs some consistent playing time. Hopefully with us.

Strange deal with no option to buy. They'll be waiting to see if he flourishes so they can bang another 5m on

The general consensus from those who watch the league is that he's one that's formerly been tipped for great things who now is regarded to never reach that level. An £800k loss over a season + wages is certainly no more that Crouch is losing in value every year, and aren't we still paying Sunderland £2m/year for KJ?
No future fee agreed is a moot point, really. We still get a year to look at him, and 12 months with us and in relations to Benfica hopefully means we'll be in prime position should he turn out to be a success.

Oliveira Adam and Ince in a three behind Diouf! That would do for me. Backed up by N'Zonzi and a reborn Palacios

They'll be waiting to see if he flourishes so they can bang another 5m on That's the thing, if he plays well they will charge us far more for him or bigger clubs will get interested. Looking at his goal scoring record for other clubs he doesn't seem like the type of player to come in and make an instant impact either.

Hard to work out whether we see him as a regular starter. The forward situation is a complete open book now. Fair to say he is now the most secure of the 5 we have for this season!
At least one will now be going, you'd think?
He seems to be the deeper of the 2 forwards if we play 4-4-2. A kind of No.10 figure who also drifts out to the wings based on reports?

Doesn't really mean anything that we have no option to buy, just that we don't have first dibs if he's any good! (But we kind of do anyway now).

At a guess i'd say 4-2-3-1 is the most likely with Oliveira or Walters playing in behind the striker. If we sign Diouf then we have 3 strikers who are all quite quick, strong and capable of playing as a lone striker, the odd one out is Crouch.

He does seem to be highly regarded but the general perception from the media is he needs some consistent playing time. Hopefully with us. Going by what I have seen on Utube - he is right footed and seems happy to play either side of the 3 as well as the central position. In a few of the Utube clips he has a decent pass/cross with his right foot. So he could play as a striker in the centre or the left position and be more of a creator/winger in the right position. Assuming he has a bit of pace, that could work out very nicely for us in a 4231 formation which MH is said to favour.

With the current squad as it is then Walters is a shoe in along with Jerome either side of Crouch/jones in a 433 I dont see Hughes playing with wingers given the situation with our wingers full backs to provide the width Nzonzi,Wilson & Adam in the middle Obviously sign one or two players & that changes

It'll be interesting who we sign from here though since, apart from maybe at right back, any signings will mean strong competition for places.

If he plays well then it is a good deal for us. So if Zaha, Wellbeck came available would you not take them on loan as there is no option to buy? Some crazy thinking on this board.

If its true of course but... The club are telling us they are trying to be self sufficient. Where's the logic down that road when you're chucking a million euros at a player for 9 months? I'd rather we invest that money elsewhere.

No option to buy = poor deal for me. and me. He has a good season and then all of sudden he's worth 10m+ or becomes unaffordable. A maximum fee should be agreed before any loan starts.
