Well if that's the case we will have to hope the "disappointing results in the short term" are not too disappointing and the duration of them is not too long. In a desperately tight league for the 14 or so also rans there is no coming back from a bad start. Just ask QPR last season. You were alright with a run of one win in four months Gods, so you'll be right behind the new man regardless won't you? 'Rimmers rim' after all, and the only people turning on Hughes will be the rotters who turned on Pulis apparently... He needs to win football games though doesn't he. He gets a freebie for me as long as we aren't continually poncing around the bottom three. That is something that the 'football anti-christ' was able to achieve and it simply isn't good enough.

If Hughes makes a serious effort to improve the attractiveness of Stoke's play, it will take time to achieve and may mean disappointing results in the short term. Hopefully, supporters will recognise this and will hold off on the "Hughes Out" threads five games into the season. Fresh season, fresh ideas. I don't care what the fixture list has thrown up, it's an open book mate, anything can happen but you seem certain it's only going to go one way.

He wasn't sacked for being 'the football anti-Christ' though was he? I think we have to be prepared for a transitional season and there are no guarantees we'll hit the ground running. We might, we might not. Some degree of patience will be required. That certain posters are already sharpening their knives for him though is as depressing as those who could never give TP any credit.

In that ESPN interview he describes Muniesa as naturally left sided, so I assume he will be left back cover

I agree its transitional and that has to be factored in to the judgement of Hughes. As well as a couple sharpening their knives there's also a few who are giddy, already talking of limited players turning into world beaters. Low 40's points, hopefully a bit of cup fun and being a bit better to watch is more than enough for me next season but there has to be checkpoints. If in December we are in the bottom three and not winning ugly occasionally but losing beautifully regularly, then that will be a failure and people have the right to say so.

Yeah, that'll be fine for me as well though. As for performance, it'll depend whether there are signs things might get better or if it looks like another QPR-style shambles. Hughes' teams often start slowly but some then find their way and do really well. It took him 10 games or so to start turning Blackburn round; Fulham were hovering around the bottom three around Christmas time but finished 8th.

Hurrah
Can't be arsed reading It but two passes put together and keeping hold of possession will be a total change of football
The lack of options of players forward enough to pass to put huge pressure on the team from defence to midfield as we had no outlet once Fuller was criminally dumped
I can't wait for the new season as its the first one in years I have actually looked forward too

Has he positioned himself as the 'Guardiola of Stoke on Trent? Is that an American site? Yes, it is. Don't know about the writer, though. The site has recently expanded its scope, so there are a lot of new writers. I was just pleased to see a positive article about Stoke, here in the States, rather than the same old tripe. Now all we need are some more positive results. ![(thumbsup)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/q4Mqf5MqRwT9PY8UitYa.gif)

Possibly the most poorly written thing I have ever read. I take it you're not familiar with the tabloid press, in particular The Sun and The Star then?

By my standards it's a cracker!!! It's another belter from The Oatie's very own Stephen Fry. Coming from the Oaties very own Roy "Chubby" Brown I'll consider that a compliment.

Every thread takes the same direction at the moment like a stuck gramophone record.
Hughes and his retinue of helpers do or say something (anything really) and folks queue up positively swooning like school girls in awe of what has been said or done. I can live with that, it’s still honeymoon time right? But then at the same moment they just can’t resist putting the boot in to his predecessor.
His predecessor (unlike the current management team) has a record to stand on (and I know people hate to see it but let’s do it one more time) it reads promotion to the Premier League for the first time in a quarter of a century, 5 finishes between 12th and 14th, the first FA Cup Final for the Club in its 150 year history and qualification for the KO stages of the Europa Cup for the first time ever.
Honestly, I have no idea which way it will go from here, upwards and onwards I hope, but I don’t get all the spitting vitriol for his predecessor.
For that reason I feel it incumbent on me to point out that nothing has been achieved yet. Simply in the interests of balance and fairness.

Balance and fairness would rather require you to consider both the successes and failures of each manager wouldn't it Gods? Something you singularly fail to do in bollocking on about QPR at every opportunity.

Possibly the most poorly written thing I have ever read. Well, I didn't think it was Shakespeare, but in what way? 'Two weeks ago, Hughes completed Stoke’s second signing of the summer window. Marc Muniesa is a defender. He used to play for Barcelona.' - as though it was written by an eight-year-old.

I just passed the article along because it was a positive story about Stoke in the U.S. "press". An unusual occurrence, to say the least.

I want to win the lottery.
A football hasn't being kicked yet but the PHWs are lathering their faces in Hughes jizz the minute the bloke sneezes or takes a fart.
Avoid the bottom 3 and win/draw more games than we lose and Hughes will fine. Couldn't give a fuck whether we pass it or twat it as long as we get the odd good game and stay clear of the bottom 3.

Creating more than one chance at home to the likes of West Brom wouldn't go amiss either.

Hopefully. Players such as Huth, Shawcross, Muniesa, Pieters, Wilson, Cameron and Crouch can play football on the floor and we should be replicating Swansea in this coming season and many seasons after. Major transformation is not required here as we already have a very good quality of players. I'm not expecting major results instantly but I feel this is something that we have to give time to. Huth can play football on the floor? im sorry but he scares the living shit out of me when he attempts to pass the damn thing.

The only thing Hughes has to do is replicate something like 2010/11. That wouldn't require a massive change (reducing the risk of relegation) and will create chances making games more entertaining.
