Well, I’m not up to your standards but started the couch to 5k in September having done zero running since I left school. As an overweight, 53 year old ex smoker I found it hard but by the end I was able to run 5k. Since then I’ve managed to do 5k in under 30, run a full 10k and today completed my first park run. No big achievement by your standards but ok for me. If anyone’s thinking of getting fitter for 2020 and you’re worried you can’t, just do it. If I can anyone can. You CAN do it 👍 Well done, have you lost much weight, feeling healthier?

Can’t believe the difference in just a few months. Im too old to get competitive but just running for the sheer fun of it is great. Strangely addictive too 👍

Might enter their 10k later in the year though 👍

Consider having a go at some races too, there are some very good old codgers out there putting me to shame, 53 is young compared to some!

Steady 10k tonight (52 minutes), Biddulph to Congleton and back.
That's a total of 27km for the year so far.
I've set myself a goal of running 1,000km in 2020.
Just 10 weeks until my first half in Stafford. My goal is sub 2 hours.

Well it was a great night at the North Staffs Running Awards on Friday. I spotted Yes early on continually having to get up and move out of the way while his talented teammates got up one by one to collect their awards. His training partner then took centre stage and took some of the most prestigious awards available within the gift of the committee. It left me wondering why someone built like a greyhound, obviously talented at running and at the prime of his life can't match the exploits of his training partner then, late on, the penny dropped as I watched him on the edge of the dancefloor clutching a bottle of vodka

I ran with her yesterday morning and she was still shocked about it. Binge drinking seems to be a bit ingrained into the SMM culture 😂 Gave the vodka away to one of my club mates, another one that reaped multiple awards that night! Hoping to be up there next year if I can get enough races in.

The lady that took her 20 mile and marathon records is a former vet World duathlete champion that's how high she set the bar this year.

I'm still on course for 1000km in 2020. I've done 34km so far, but I will start ramping up the kilometers from next week as I start training up for my first half marathon in March.
I plan on doing one long run each week (starting at around 15k, and building up to 21km) with a couple more shorter runs each week (maybe one interval run and one faster/parkrun).
Fully committed to getting sub 2 hours for my first half.

slowly heading up to marathon training longer runs, 17 miles last Sunday, drop it to 10 this week before heading back to 18 or 19 the following weekend.
1st Marathon on 15th March will be used as last long run before Manchester marathon where I'll try to get a PB if conditions are ok.

Only had an hour spare tonight (does anybody want to buy two kids?!) so I decided to go for a hilly run instead of a long run (which is what I originally intended on doing).
Managed to get just over 11km in, with a total elevation of 420 feet (which is more challenging than my normal training routes). It was tough but I felt good. Getting back into the swing of things after an over indulgent xmas.
Stafford half only has a total of 395 feet of elevation, so I'm assuming these type of training runs will be good prep for the day, and hopefully make it a tad easier?
You only get out what you put in, and all that.

Betley Banger 10k & 5k race then all round to felonious house for tea and crumpets after ? Cross country, 3 times around the field by the mere. I was there for the NS cross country event a couple of weeks back. Not for me I'm trying to restrict my races this year to keep fit by the first week of November instead of feeling knackered and over raced

Went for a long run tonight. Ended up being my longest run to date. Found it really tough though. I was proper blowing and struggling towards the end. Not sure signing up for a half was such a good idea now?! I've got plenty of work to do before Stafford in 8 weeks time.

Felt completely empty tonight. Not sure if it was just an off day, or whether I need to start introducing nutrition on my longer runs.
I dont really fancy gels. What else can I try? Would sweets/jelly babies be ok?
And do I need to eat before a long run?
