Did a quick (for me) 10k to Congleton and back yesterday afternoon. 51 minutes (my best time for the particular route I took). The inclines kill me. I lose more time going up hills than I do making up time going down them. Quick question, how often should you get new trainers? I haven't had these ones long but I've already done 100 miles (they still feel fine and comfortable). Also, when training for a half, is it recommended you train all the way up to the actual distance (or should I be looking to run further? Or is less, within reason, ok?). Hill repeats and leg strengthening in the gym will get you better up the hills. 14 miles for a half should do it. 350-500 miles on the shoes.

Trainers if I remember correctly every 500 to 1000 miles but the all knowing Northy will know. For a half probably up to 14 miles will do especially with you running on slightly tougher routes. Met up with Yes by chance at the Brit this morning for around 4 miles and we both agreed that you need to get down to a club I must be getting fitter because he was out of breath and I was doing all the talking I'd probably need to start my own club that runs at 5.30am in the morning! I'm one of the unfortunate ones running at that time! Where are you based?

Over in Stoke, I fancy giving Congleton parkrun another go, it was my first sub 20 there!

Smashed by 10k PB tonight!!!
Did my usual Biddulph to Congleton route and took almost 2 minutes off my best time (I managed 49.21). Reasonably hilly too.
I think most of that time was made up on the inclines. I felt much better than usual on those stretches tonight. Maybe I'm starting to build a bit of strength, or maybe it was just one of those nights. Either way, it felt good.
A bit chuffed 👍🏃♂️

I'm starting to get more and more instances of inaccurate data when recording my runs. I currently use Strava on my mobile.
Is there anything more reliable I can use? Are GPS watches any better/more accurate?

Are GPS watches any better/more accurate? Yeah watches are miles more accurate. You can get a Garmin watch without breaking the bank. To be honest I don't find it needs to be an all singing and dancing watch.

20 mile Grim Up North Running race this morning from Kirkstall Abbey to Saltaire and back again along the Leeds - Liverpool canal. Some sharp showers, including hail, and stiff headwind going out, not so bad coming back. Hats off to Grim Up North Running for organizing a weekend of events, including everything from a 5k to a marathon. First time I've done a race up here with a free barbecue and bottle of cider at the end .

Did another sub-50 10k yesterday. Happy to have done it back-to-back. Felt good.
Need to start working on distance and longer runs after Xmas, building up for the half.
Set myself a goal to run 1,000km in 2020. 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️

Tatton Yule Yomp 10K, stop every 2 miles for hot mulled wine and cake or mince pie, always a good bit of fun dressed up and with friends.
I saw StokieSanta sat in the changing room on his own beforehand looking a bit disconsolate, he runs it in full stoke kit and has his name as Stokiesanta on the front

How was Lanzarote Felonious? It was ok, happy with the time The course isn't as easy as I thought having walked most of it and it was hot and being bussed out to Arecife meant you were running into the headwind, same for the half. I've only ever done one race before where I was weaving in and out of slower runners (marathon and half). Had a long chat with your ex Capitan at a karaoke bar on Sunday he was there with about 20 of your teammates who were taking measures to counteract the severe dehydration suffered on the day before or so it seemed Had a nice chat with Fiona as well.... she seemed to suggest that you were thinking about paddling out there next year on a carbon neutral canoe I was also introduced to another of your teammates who asked me if I was the one on the Oatcake who took the piss out of you....refused to reveal his username and said he was just a lurker One of the South Cheshire lads came 3rd in 2:38. I gather he did Berlin this year in 2:30. My gang of 7 from Fenton Manor secured three first age category places and a second place but the honours definitely go to the lad we left at home who won the Vet 70 at Telford 10K on Sunday in 41:15 and will now represent England in April

Great set of results there, win any bananas??? Is that Vet70 a record? Unbelievable time.

Didn't look bright enough to be our Benjamin No bananas on show this year unfortunately and no team win for your lot I gather there weren't enough marathon runners on show. The fastest time in the UK this year for a Vet 70 is 40:00. He's set the second fastest English time and 4th fastest in the UK. It was lowered to 41:12 on chip time.

How do times on a treadmill compare to those achieved in a road race? The reason I ask is that my daughter tells me her friend is running a treadmill 10K in 32 minutes. I haven't seen a treadmill or a gym for that matter for 30 years

That's why I'm asking The last time I was on a treadmill was 30 years ago I'm sure they've improved since then but I was told by the staff member at the gym not to set it at over 10mph and it was reasonably comfortable at that speed from what I remember. Unfortunately at that time I wasn't racing in the great outdoors so I've no idea how it translated. Two years back pre injury I was running at 10 mph outdoors in 5Ks but of course 30 years ago in my prime it would have been far quicker.

I haven't seen a treadmill or a gym for that matter for 30 years Is her friend Mo Farrah? She says there's nothing too him and he's lean so it's no surprise that he's that quick if he's working out several days a week on a treadmill and has been doing so for years. He's also 21 which helps I've told her to tell him to race a 10K while he's in that sort of form and while he's young.

It's properly boring though... Complete guess, but I'm going to say it would probably equate to a 33/34 minute 10k? Still rapid.
