That's Questionable It's a tough one. Club runners are indoctrinated to wear bright colours and hi viz. Then there's car drivers who think they own the road and nobody else should be out there slowing them down or causing any sort of obstruction. There's a guy this way who I see out running on a fairly regular basis who wears black top to toe on unlit country roads with no pavements and also runs at certain times of the year when it's heading towards dusk. I heard the other side this morning out running with two mates who'd been for a bike ride this week. They'd had the shout of car behind, got into single file, the driver wasn't confident enough on the lane to go past them but was confident enough to wind the window down when he was finally able to go past them and shout "Selfish fuckers".... no doubt too thick to see the irony

I'm still struggling with injuries/pain and mentally after being knocked down by that dog 3 months ago. I was stuck at home depressed for a month but generally have been able to get out more in the past two months as more time has gone by, with 3 runs in the last week. I felt almost agoraphobic at first.
I'm anxious every time I see a dog off the lead now and have had incidents with dogs since I resumed running - first when three dogs jumped out at me when the owner had seen me and the dogs were seemingly under control - and I gave them a wide berth. I tried stopping (as advised by a dog warden) but that made the situation worse, so I'll just keep running in future. A few days after that, two big dogs started running alongside me, and the owner made no attempt to control them, with one brushing against me. That was pretty scary given I was running on a rocky surface (my injuries came from walking on grass). Then while cycling, I thanked a guy for getting his dog under control as I approached. Then next thing it was chasing and barking aggressively at me, right by my side at times. I know in that situation you're generally supposed to stop, but I didn't feel comfortable doing so (and it was a big dog). That's just three of 5 or 6 recent incidents!
If I think of it logically, the odds are I was very unlucky to be knocked down by a dog in the first place (though the idiot who caused that encourages the dogs to go crazy - I've seen and heard them since), and again logically, it's even less likely to happen again despite what seemed like close shaves more recently. I've tried running at different times of day and tried supposedly quieter routes.
I'm also not having fun on the runs even when they go okay dog-wise, but I figure I'll start enjoying them again at some point if I keep trying. When I've attempted to run fast - pushing harder than I ever had before for the last kilometre, I've managed around 22m45s for 5k (40 seconds off my PB from before these random non-running injuries started in November). I'll try an easy slower run tomorrow. Then next time I fancy sprinting uphill and jogging back down it. Maybe mixing things up in that way will help bring back the fun.

I did enjoy my more leisurely run today, though my left ankle is hurting more than it has for a couple of weeks - maybe due to the jump from running 6km to 7.6km. And the dog incidents continue - one started chasing me from the other side of a field but thankfully it did eventually listen to and return to its owner before it reached me.
7.56km at 4:57 with 75m elevation (4.7 miles at 7:58).

I'm struggling with plantar fascitis at the moment, driving me potty. Managing 5k a time but don't want to push it at the moment. Going to see if I can get a physio's appointment tomorrow.
Still managing the gym fine but had been getting into my running and managing some decent distance.
Making sure I keep pushing the elevation gain, I've found its making a difference throwing the run up penkhull bank in at the end of every trek.

8 miles from Tittesworth this afternoon with trails up and down from The Roaches followed by a long late lunch at the Lazy Trout. Just over 10 miles yesterday with a virtual 10K. First attempt on the Wammy abandoned after just over a kilometre as the stench became unbearable

I ran 5k in 22:26 on Friday, my fastest since before the dog injury. After saying I was hating running, it was another enjoyable run! I don't feel anywhere near as fit as I did in February yet. I read an article on Runners World (I think) that recommended breathing in for every two steps and breathing out for one step. I don't have the coordination to do that, but I did breathe out sharply on this run. So I don't know if that's why I was able to run quite a bit faster than recently or if it was just a coincidence - I guess breathing in for longer than I breathed out meant I took in more oxygen overall, and the first 2km felt easier than usual. Since then, two more runs I didn't really enjoy, but I purposely took in more ascent so they were tough. I'm happy just to have enjoyed a couple of runs recently after feeling demoralised with my fitness when I was finally able to get running again.

But when you do try and empty your lungs. This will help your intake without realising it. By taking a deeper breath and emptying your lungs should bring your heart rate down

Just doing a 3.5mile in work a couple of times a week. Not bad yesterday 26:03 @ 7:25 with a horrendous hill at the end.
More happy with my “pairs” 10 mile cycling time trial tonight. 23:45 a PB of over a minute for ten miles

I hated running today but did run 5k in 22:12 - my best since time out after injuring my calf in November! That injury came from lifting a concrete slab that'd been left in an awkward position. Usually when I start reaching my PB pace, something injures me again. I tweaked my left ankle while walking on the way to a run yesterday so did wonder if I'd need more time out, but it was okay today.
I tried concentrating on emptying my lungs as recommended by salopstick above so that could have helped. I almost collapsed by the end so don't think I've put that much effort into a 5k before.
I'd tried some hills at the weekend: 5.03km at 4:49 (3.13ml at 7:45) with 390ft elevation. That was tough but I sort of enjoyed it. Even when I'm hating the feel of pushing hard, I'm beginning to enjoy it. My next run will be a steady one, which I know I'll enjoy.

For the first time in ages last week I fell during a run....and landing on a black brick made path along canal in Worcester it hurt! Luckily landed on my side and not face first, but the bruising during this week has been shades of colour I never knew existed!...Oh and yes I did stop the Garmin Today what should have been Rock & Roll weekend in Liverpool, took advantage of it being cancelled to do additional long run of just under 12 miles with a mix of flat/hills....and a chuffed 1:47 all in all Steady as she goes buildng up the miles

I managed to get a couple of pre breakfast runs in down in Sidmouth this week up along the river path to Sidford and back down the other side of the town finishing with efforts along the promenade. There's a long avenue around half a mile long where the local club do their hill repeats. Quite original they run three lampposts down and two back up as an effort on repeat until eventually they reach the bottom.
