I've knackered my left Achilles from exclusively running on hills since lockdown (I don't have much choice around here) and it doesn't seem to be improving. I gave it 2 months off and have just been out for a few gentle bike rides in that time. I tried to start my comeback this week on holiday in Devon, where I could do a few flatter runs, but it still feels like it's on fire by the end. It almost feels like it's got shorter somehow and feels constantly tight especially in the morning. I've had it before and it's gone away after a few weeks' rest but this is taking ages. Anyone had this before? I guess I just need more rest but I can tell I'm getting to the stage where I'm losing fitness fast Rubbish! Have you tried going to see a physio? Not yet but I probably will if it's still bad after another month's rest. Lots of stuff on the web says an achilles strain can take a long time to sort itself out.

Lots of stuff on the web says an achilles strain can take a long time to sort itself out. Does it sting? I often have a stringing feeling in my Achilles. It can quite often hurt when I'm walking, but once I'm warmed up in a run, it's usually fine. Physio reckons it's scar tissue. No idea how I caused it though.

No idea how I caused it though. It's just very sore and if I pinch the tendon it's agony. It takes half an hour in the morning til I can walk without having to keep my leg straight. It warms up through the day and if I have a hot bath I can forget it's a problem for a bit, but once it cools down it's tight again. I'm going to try a few stretches alongside the rest to see if that helps.

Do you not take things like iron and multi-vit supplements

Do you not take things like iron and multi-vit supplements Yes I do, daily. I take 14mg of Iron a day, plus 60 mg of vitamin C, plus whatever from foods (plenty of spinach, beans, legumes, etc.) so it's a bit frustrating. The good news is I've increased my ferretin store levels so it is getting in there, just not transferring quickly enough, I blame Tony Scholes if it's transfers

Is this in any way Covid related?

Do you not take things like iron and multi-vit supplements Surely a good diet should sort this out?

Is this in any way Covid related? Could be, they can't be certain. I'm in the hospital end of next week for blood plasma tests

Do you not take things like iron and multi-vit supplements Surely a good diet should sort this out? It does but I take iron tablets plus some fish oils daily for my joints. Don’t know if they work even as a placebo but extra vitamins won’t hurt you

Do you not take things like iron and multi-vit supplements Surely a good diet should sort this out? not if you are doing lots of exercise, longer distance runs etc. more so in summer as you will lose Iron a lot in your sweat

Bloody hell you lot, where are you?
18.5 miles for me this morning, trying to increase mileage and stamina again, felt tough.

On a serious note it's now a full 12 months since I started running again and the times are seemingly continuing to drop. This last few weeks I've done two 41 minute 10Ks both on tough courses and a 1:33 half again on a tough course.
Thursday evening I ran 6 miles up the Roaches and along the ridge, yesterday a tough 10 miler in the Moorlands with a thousand feet of climb and this morning a 5 miler doing a recce for a 20 mile run in a few weeks time.

Still at it, regular 5ks 3 x a week and try to squeeze a 10k in too now. I'm not really training for anything in particular so just watch the numbers on strava and see how I feel.
Gym has opened again so I'm sticking to running outside 4 days and free weights 3 days a week. Fairly well set up but you have to book a 'station' and stick to it at the moment so I thought it pointless doing more cardio inside.
All supplemented by plenty of walking.
I'm interested to see what happens over the next few weeks as I've never exercised so consistently or with so much variation in activity, mainly due to time constraints.

Only managing to get out once a week for the last few weeks due to work and it was a real struggle today.
Need to stop fannying about and get out there at least 3x a week.

It's died a death since Redapples decided to hang his boots up Come on Redapples, get yourself out there again Bit worried he might have been out drinking in Stone. I can imagine what it's like on the razz down there from my experience in Lanzarote last December

Bloody hell you lot, where are you? 18.5 miles for me this morning, trying to increase mileage and stamina again, felt tough. I’ve only been out weekly for the last 2-3 weeks. Mainly because it’s been too hot but I’ve also felt very lethargic and energy free. Started taking Iron tablets as Northy suggested and I am starting to feel better. Probs connected with going pesci a year ago.

Been getting out just easy running and enjoying different routes now and then.
A few races are starting up again, Tatton 10k was held at the weekend and is going again midweek towards the end of August. The very fast Mid Cheshire 5k is going ahead at the end of August and the Bartletts Foundation at Farndon 10k as well.
Just heard the Cheshire Half marathon at Capesthorne Hall is going ahead on September 20th and the Cheshire 10k from Arley Hall in October looking likely to go ahead

No runs for me for two weeks but 10 swims in 11 days has got me feeling a lot better!
Moving up north now so expect beach run-updates!

Anyone else with any races entered soon? Loads of virtual races. One of my friends did the Burton 18 on Sunday but with staggered starts I can't get my head around it.
