Nice slow steady 5K with the lad on Fathers Day. No stops, talking all the way round, he hardly broke sweat and after only two months of running. It'll be really interesting to see where he's at come the end of the summer.

I really enjoyed my running and I've tried a few times now to gradually find a way of getting back into it since the hip replacements. Even with the shoes I've got which aren't bad I can't see it happening which is a pity. Some of the routes you do sound great.

What's put him off running is that although I'm an old bastard I'm still a fast old bastard which hasn't exactly inspired him to run with me although I've said many times that I run at any pace over any distance. There's nothing to be gained by running flat out every time you put your shoes on. If it's any interest to you the oldest "lad" in yesterday's group run (staggered starts of course) is 80 in October. He had a hip replacement in eatly February and started back running 7 weeks ago. Last week he did a virtual 10K race on a hilly course Bagnall, Rownall, Cellarhead, Werrington in 70 minutes. Yesterday he ran 8 miles around Cheddleton, The Heath and over towards Ipstones. The doctor gave him the go ahead to carry on "as normal" and this is his normal

Kick started the week with a pre breakfast 5 miles, first run since Tuesday, felt quite chilly out, won't be like that the rest of the week.

Having jogged/ran 3x 5.5km over the past 4 days I decided to take it up a notch and try a casual 10km today. Just got back and managed it in under 58 mins. It's nothing impressive but not bad considering I'm packing an extra 8kg (currently 96kg), am 40 years old in a few weeks, have only been jogging for a month and only gave up smoking 6 months ago after nearly 20 years. He's a bit fragile though isn't he π TBF, if someone overtook me running when I was cycling I'd be a bit pissed off! If a person even averages 13mph on a bike (which is a conservative estimate), then they'd be travelling at roughly Mo Farah's half marathon pace. There are very few people locally that could match that pace at even 5k distance (or in my case, a mile!!) In summary, he must be a bit slow, pass the message on π

Just completed week 9 run 2 of the Couch 2 5k. One more run left. I could have easily stopped after 25 minutes as my chest was starting to hurt but stuck at it - Does it get any easier!?
Had a takeaway over the weekend as well as a few beers on both days so don't think that's helped :-)
Went a total 6.4km including the 10 min walk.
I've done 26 runs/walks now and gone 122.5km - that's 122.5km more than usual!

I did a 5K on the Wammy Parkrun route about 5 or 6 weeks? back bang on 20 minutes therefore averaging 9.3 miles per hour. I overtook a cyclist on the route which is surprising because it's a flat course although I did overtake on the outward stretch which has a slight incline. If there's a hill it's much easier to overtake a cyclist unless you're talking about absolute athletes like Salop

I went all round the nature reserve and extended it to about 8.5k, absolutely beautiful it was especially with the sun shining haven't being up there probably since the Colliery closed......

That's interesting at one point yesterday afternoon I was about 50 yards from the Wammy turning point just beyond the church and the picnic with the kids was at Apedale within view of the transmitter at the top of Silverdale Country Park.

I nearly did the Newcastle 10 as an alternative to the St Thomas 10 until the offer of an attractive similar paced female runner came up The problem is trying to replicate the Cheadle 4 because it's such an incredible route. A sub 6 minute first mile followed by a brutal one and half mile uphill then a ball out one and a hall mile downhill. I don't know the elevation of Blackbank but it's just over 2K of climb. I suppose if you run from the bridge you'll have a kilometre of fairly flat running and then just the mini roundabout to get across. By the way have you seen last year's joke on the Father's Day thread I've been told it's probably a little too dangerous to run the actual course unfortunately. I didn't think about the roundabout, can be a bit busy there. If I start just after, I can just finish further up The Wammy. I've just replied, embarassingly accurate π I've just done the 4 miles taking in Blackbank and I make it exactly 300 feet of climb. I started at the old railway bridge just above Garners traffic lights heading towards Knutton village took a left into Acacia Road then right at Malham Road and left onto Blackbank Road then followed the Newcastle 10K route. Mile 1 is about 300 metres short of the Windmill carpark at Apedale, mile 2 just beyond the transmitter, mile 3 at the top of Scot Hay village and the finish is just before the car park at the football club where the first mini roundabout is. Too hot to run hard at 25 degrees splits were 8:05, 8:30, 7:30 and 6:47. I reckon racing they should be something like 6:50, 7:15, 6:30 and 5:45.... you can take another minute off each of them

I started C25k last Sept when I quit smoking.Iβm in my mid 50βs, overweight ( but not as much as I was ) and hadnβt run since I left school. Last week I did two 8k runs, managed a 22k half marathon distance on Sat then followed it up with a 9k the day after. Iβm not fast but Iβm loving it. Not sure it gets easier, you just seem to push your boundaries a bit more but itβs great. Keep at it mate π
