50 miles on the bike this morning. Think I'm going to have to start posting in the other thread with the proper athletes. Only kidding, cycling is a piece of piss. 😉 Two 100 mile bike rides this week. Just got back from the Long Mynd. Tough old day

Quite like the look of the 'brutal duathlon' which is 100 miles and a marathon, maybe once I seem to hit a ceiling with speed.

Would grind out the swim but I’ve had to stop running as it hurts my knees so bad. I went out with the boy last month first time in a year. Banged out 3.5 miles in 30 minutes. I could never run another marathon

I'm sometimes tempted these days to do all my cardio work on the bike and just do hard sessions on foot. I can do more of it and feel fresher for the harder running. Did an easy 12k at lunch today and found myself wishing I was on the bike It's good as a low impact alternative isn't it? I wouldn't do it so much when I'm marathon training though, got to get the legs used to the pounding. My back is in bits now though.Music to my ears I'm feeling more relaxed all of a sudden

Lovely run around Hanchurch try to keep up with an old un 😉 Took me all the way back to when I was a superfit 17/18 running with the family whippet... she was sniffing in hedgerows and then past me in a flash while I was flat out gasping for air

Great route though, feel confident I can make my way out if I get lost!

Only 2 x 5k this week.....a) I really don't do running in sun! b) Last few days at M&S have been busy busy busy! 5.30-1.30 shifts, average of 12,000 steps per shift & feeling cream crackered!
Oh and....Nice to see one of the major marathons has got the balls to say "its off...." unlike London

Half way there now. Had a bit of a blip around day 8 where I thought I just couldn't finish it all. Since then, I've felt more positive about it all, and the runs have felt much better. Hitting day 15 is a boost, psychologically, too. www.justgiving.com/fundraising/thomasbeech

7.6 miles this morning in 58 minutes just as the heat was starting to build up. The off road stuff is wonderful at the minute with no mud.

He'll come out of this challenge with the big, and needing his next hit 😉 Try to go for a marathon a bit more exciting than the one I did, Gloucester. Freezing cold in January, 4 laps of the same boring countryside loop.

Keeping the mileage ticking away nicely and hopefully increasing my speed too.

My wife has heart disease and we have to have annual tests and check ups at the hospital. At the start of this year we had the latest appointment with one of the top dog consultants at Birmingham hospital (they specialise in heart disease) and we were discussing what was safe for my wife, in terms of exercise. We got onto talking about my half marathon training. He told me that he doesnt recommend anybody (heart disease or otherwise) run marathons, as (in his opinion) it puts too much strain on the heart. That has stuck with me and put me off.

I suppose it depends on your level of fitness I know fellow runners who've done marathons well into their 70s and posted good times as well I've only done the one but then again I know I'm a 5K runner. All I'd say is that ballsout doing a fast 5K I'm gasping to take oxygen out of the air but for a half marathon and beyond I'm under no pressure aerobically and that's at my age doing around 1:30 on a good day. The only strain I had on my one and only marathon 5 years ago was on the bloody hamstrings even at 1:34 at the halfway point I wasn't feeling any strain. There are runners I run with who are geared for the longer distances mileage doesn't seem to bother them.

It just struck a chord with me when he said it. I know masses do it. Eddie Izzard did about 30 back to back didnt he?! And then theres James Lawrence.....have you seen that documentary?

I'm not a fan of the marathon I only did it because I felt I'd done everything else and wanted to get the feel of running the distance. One's you're competent at the half which is an easy distance once you've been running a year or two the marathon is not a huge leap certainly if you're young. I was just teasing with the comment about 30 marathons personally I think it's just about as stupid as anything out there. Not seen the documentary you referred to.

What distance do you specialise in? And what are your PBs? Have I got you on strava? I've forgotten which usernames off here are which followers on strava.

No I don't use Strava. 5K to 10K is the distance I'm happiest with sub 20 at the moment with the 5K but I haven't trained for one properly since I got back from injury 10 months ago I've been concentrating on the 8 to 10 mile runs to get the stamina up I think I'm well there now.

Still got a bit of timber around the midriff. I'm hoping my lad will get the bug and break World Records 👍 It was less than 3 years ago when I was pushing for the sub 20. Took me a few goes, I find it's more about getting comfortable with the fact that you are going to feel horrible racing 5k. Apples, keep training and I have no doubt you will be hitting sub 20 too. With regards to the marathon, I think an untrained or little trained person could have heart issues. The doctor obviously knows a lot more than any of us though. I had a heart check up around a year ago and I'd done 4 marathons by then and they said mine was in top condition 😉 There are some older blokes in my club that still run marathons into their 60s and 70s, seemingly without problems (other than drinking problems 😂)
