After four 8 mile runs on the bounce I got a 10 miler in this morning. 7:09 for the last mile. Canal, river, woodland, a bit of off road mud, in fact a bit of everything. Lovely day to be out running

My old Mum informs me that it has just been announced on Radio Stoke that the Potters Arf has been cancelled. Anyone know if it is cancelled completely for this year or 'hopefully' pushed back into late Autumn? I think if possible they'll be trying to push them all back but the local race calendar finishes on the first Sunday in November and it's fairly packed until then with the usual break for the summer holidays. It's an absolute bastard because I was planning to try and do all 20 on the list this year meaning that I would have to up my game to accommodate two 20 milers, the first of which we both did. The second race was cancelled due to the rains. Hey ho I think Meerbrook has been pushed into November too?

Another 8 miles this lunchtime that's 6 days in a row I've never done that before. One last effort tomorrow then a couple of days rest then it's going to be speed work for a week.

Yes, but she had it as well The real thing? We are presuming as that's what the NHS helpline said, not tested as not hospitalised but all the symptoms point to it.

4 miles on the treadmill on Monday.
5 miles on the treadmill tonight.
It's like an oven in my utility room (where the treadmill is) and there's hardly any air in there. As a result, the pace and distance always suffer, yet I always feel like I've actually worked harder!! I'm dripping in sweat by the end.
Good for keeping the weight off I suppose. I've been drinking pretty much every night since the start of last week.

Unfortunately road cycling isn’t always cheap If you intend doing lots of miles. Road bike 10 ish miles - hybrid Thrash yourself round trails. Mountain bike. If you buy a cheap Halfords bike it will normally be shit and fall apart. It’s false economy. 5 years ago My first road bike cost me £500 secondhand from eBay. I rode it for 6 months doing about 800 miles in the rest Of that year with cheap cycling kit from sports direct and aldi. That gave me the bug and I started to upgrade. I now do around 7500 miles a year so obviously have something mechanically sound to do that job. My advice is to try and buy a second hand road bike with shimano 105 components on eBay it’s important you get the right size ish. Do an eBay search for Planet X pro carbon decent bikes for the money felonious cheers

Do not under any circumstances buy a £100 bike shaped object. You'll regret it within days. As Salop says, buy second hand at first and learn how to sort out any issues yourself. My road bike is a 2013 Cannondale CAAD8 with ultegra/105 components - paid £280 for it 3 years ago and it'll last me years yet. Tiagra is the next level down in terms of the components and I'd say that's fine too. The main difference between them is weight which, if you're just using it for training/commuting, doesn't really matter. Don't worry about going to 11 speed if you can get a good deal on 10 speed - it just means more derailleur tweaking anyway as the tolerances are so tight. Aldi kit is usually fine (their lights especially) but prepare to spend all your waking hours on Chain Reaction cycles/Merlin Cycles etc. A quick glance at ebay for the kind of thing I'd be looking for if I were you www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bianchi-Via-Nirone-C2C-Ultegra-alu-carbon-mens-road-bike-59cm/124126773208?pageci=2781246a-2fc1-495a-84fc-4ea4793d4eee. That'd be much too big for you, but just to give you an idea. You'd probably want a 56 cm frame I'd guess. I have a 58. As long as the frame isn't too big you can do a bit to make it fit with a longer or different angle of stem. Don't get anything too racey for your first bike (i.e. a bike that stretches you out like the pros ride) as it'll kill your back and you'll hate it.

Right then i’ll avoid the cheapest ones lol, I was thinking more mountain bike and spending a lot of time on the canal and doing trail routes. I might have to forget about it for now and give it a go once lockdown has passed us. Thanks for your advice guys

I have a kona dew deluxe for riding with the kids and the Mrs has a Marin Fairfax 3. Both really reliable and require hardly any maintenance. They can be had for similar prices to Salop's giant (also a good shout). For a hybrid that you'll take on muddy paths I think it's worth looking at disc brakes. Wet muddy rim brakes can take a while to catch you. You can definitely pick something like these up from ebay /gumtree for not much more than £100.
