Thanks mate. To be fair I was better at 1500 and 5 k races though. I stopped running when I had my little girl plus working shifts. I still keep fit doing circuits and the odd run now and then. I still might get back into it when little as grown up. Would like to get her in to athletics. Plus I lost the love for it a bit. What was your 5k time? Yeah I've got little uns, it's tough to fit everything in, especially with marathon training. Yes, marathon training is tough with little uns. I ran the Manchester marathon in 2016. My best 5k time is 16.15, have you got a marathon coming up?

Supposed to have London coming up, we'll see if it gets cancelled though. Hoping I'll be able to do a marathon somewhere at least and not waste all the training.

Your times will probably come down from the strength you get off your marathon training. I use to do a lot of hill sprints in 5k training, seemed to teach me to run with good form as your driving your kness up. Also my long run on a Sunday was always hilly. How's the training going mate?

It's going well, but I've neglected strength training this time with work being so manic too, can definitely feel it. Did Knighton 20 at 6:54 average which was just slightly quicker than my plan, so it bodes well. Great to meet you today YorkshirePotter(if I've got your name right?)

Her marathon pace is bloody quick 😂 We've got some heavy weeks coming up now, should be fun!

Beautiful place for a 20 mile run.

It's a really nice route, broken up with a few hills, sun came out, fantastic day. Surprisingly popular outside the area for a small local race, looks like around half of those in clubs are from further afield.

It was made easy by the kids condescending to come and look after me. Driven there and back, bag looked after, gels opened and placed in my hand at the end of each lap, milky tea with three sugars placed in my hand immediately after the race, further tea and delicious lemon drizzle cake brought to the table before the presentation and difficult three knotted lace untied for me. It's great training for their near future

Nice meeting up with you again, I did look to see if you were around or mum and dad before leaving and clocked you around the 19 mile marker on the way out. Hopefully next time we meet up it'll be more leisurely with a pub lunch at the end of it Tough course yesterday especially with the easier two miles going straight into a 15/18? mile headwind.

My marathon on Sunday and recovery wine run on Tuesday cancelled No restrictions on UK people flying in though It's frustrating isn't it the amount of effort and time that goes into marathon preparation. My mate has trained for 4 months or so for his first marathon at Manchester in three weeks, he's absolutely flying. Can't see it going ahead at the moment.

Track session again last night 10 x 400 metre repeats heading into the wind around the final bend was tough There was a solitary athlete practising the 100 metres. Absolutely magnificent to see him hammering down the straight....he got a proper round of applause.

I'm thinking of giving Stafford a miss. Current situation is making me sick with worry. Thoughts/advice? Im NOT giving Stafford a miss. Training has gone well & unless something in The Sentivale has suggested otherwise then it shouldn't really be cancelled My concern is that the "Corona Clause" will allow some organisers of either poorly attended events, or events where its near impossible to get a refund to basically take the piss with runners Take the money & run has happened before and will no doubt rear its head this time too

I'm not doing Stafford this year but if I was I'd be gutted if it was cancelled although accepting of the situation. You need to go with your gut feeling though there's no point doing it and not enjoying a moment of it.

This past week has seriously knocked me sick with worry. Two young kids (one with asthma) and a wife with a heart condition, in the current climate, its consuming my every thought. Sounds like the tip of the iceberg too. Months ahead of us.

This past week has seriously knocked me sick with worry. Two young kids (one with asthma) and a wife with a heart condition, in the current climate, its consuming my every thought. Sounds like the tip of the iceberg too. Months ahead of us. As someone who has run for years principally to help combat mental health problems, I'd say you might find it helpful for your anxiety and over-thinking to actually run Stafford. I appreciate that your wife and one of your children's health problems must be very worrying in the current climate, but as you have said yourself, we are currently at the start of what may be a long, drawn-out slog. From your posts over the last few weeks, you have obviously been training hard for this and you can minimize contact during the race - i.e. handwashing before and after, hang round towards the back at the start to avoid any press and then during the race when the field thins naturally as it will, make up ground, and take your own water bottle. Who knows, in a month or so many races may have been cancelled or suspended so you may not get the chance again for a while, and even if races continue, there are currently less infected people around generally than there will be in another 4-6 weeks, if I have understood the predictions correctly. The sense of achievement in finishing, and the benefits of hard exercise generally in regard to anxiety / stress, might help put you in a better frame of mind to deal with any forthcoming challenges in relation to your family's health. But ultimately of course it's your call, and as Felonious has posted above, there's no point doing Stafford if you run round the whole course feeling shitty, as it will almost certainly have a knock on effect on your pace and then possibly set up a nasty intrusive thought about your performance, time etc. If you do run, all the best. I understand from my old mum in Stafford that there have been a few very minor changes to the route due to localized flooding on the Isabel Trail and roadworks, but nothing major.

The Stafford Half will be busy if it goes ahead with some 4,000 runners although I'd be surprised if anyone feeling unwell would undertake a half marathon. Apart from the start of the race the runners tend to be fairly spaced out on open roads.

Manchester cancellation emails now issued. My training mate will be gutted but on a selfish note at least he got me through the 20 mile race last Sunday Gutted also for one of my teammates she was under 2:30 last weekend, a pb and dropped her half marathon pb down to 1:31 a couple of weeks back and the form she's in anything was possible at Manchester. She threw in a 6:50 mile for the last mile last weekend up the hill and into the wind
