Great effort this morning Northy πππββοΈπββοΈ Cheers, 20 miles, decent run started off in the dark where the moon was fabulous, heading out down country lanes, had a barn owl swooping about in front of me a few times, then a female Sparrowhawk hiding in an oak tree overlooking a field for it's breakfast, kestrel hovering, heron venturing out, hares, new lambs, 3 buzzards very close above,a male Sparrowhawk swooped over a hedge and nearly into me, black horned sheep, ladies trotting on horses and a man poohing behind a tree Sounds fun!

Anybody been out in this weather?? Got mine done last night(last minute decision) 18 miles incorporating the Potters 'arf route. Didn't really think it through, Bentilee on a Saturday night... Out early yesterday morning on the Bournes run but started early to get some extra miles in ended up on around 11 miles. It was an interesting add on started at Lordship Lane on to Viccy road the through Fenton past Christchurch, through Heron Cross, down Whieldon Road, through the park. past Smithpool and back up to Lordship Lane to head the other way down to the canal. I realised I can't remember ever going past Christchurch before. Incorporated Cow Lane into the run and was able to dodge the mud this time

My plan is to get an 18km run in this week.
And then just go all out for a 21km run the week after.
It'll give me a feel for where I'm at, how I'll cope with the distance and what kind of time is a realistic target.
I'll then have 3 more weeks to play with. The final week will probably just be rest.

Iβve been running 7 times this year so far, Iβm struggling to see an improvement in fitness. More runs required? Iβve been conscious of over doing it but obviously I need to up my game.

You need to run three times a week probably as a minimum. It's also about the quality of the runs. The best progress I've ever seen is Yes so perhaps the advice is to find an attractive training partner

The best progress I've ever seen is Yes so perhaps the advice is to find an attractive training partner +1 on at least 3 times a week. Getting into the habit is the most important thing, even if you only run 400 yards. Get into the habit of putting on your kit and going out of the front door and do it 3/4 times a week for a month or two. Don't worry about what happens on the run itself - just getting out is the important bit. You'll soon find that it starts to take care of itself and going for a run isn't a notable event, it's just something you do as a matter of course. Then it's only a few more months until you're at the fully fledged addict stage and a week without a run will be the most depressing thing you can imagine π

Iβve been conscious of over doing it but obviously I need to up my game. 3 times a week has been working for me. I try to do 1 long, steady run a week and a couple of shorter ones (one quick run and an interval run). I'm a novice to be fair though, so I wouldn't take my advice as gospel!! As others have said, just get out there.

Can anyone recommend a good pair of running shoes for a 14 stone, slightly flat footed beginner? π If like me you have a broader foot zerps, I can recommend what I wear which is Nike Air Zoom Vomero. Worth the investment in my eyes....and on my 16 stone frame! As for running this weekend, its a visit to the new Parkrun at Beacon Park Lichfield, and Club 12 miles on Sunday....weather permitting!

Can anyone recommend a good pair of running shoes for a 14 stone, slightly flat footed beginner? π Where are you based? Recommend getting yourself to a running shop and they'll fit you out. Nothing in Stoke, there is VeloRunner in Stone though. A bit farther afield is Derby Runner and Running Form in Burton, used all three previously and all are great options.

Can you recommend any fast courses I can sign up for?

Looking to shave time off my PB πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ Air Products 10K in Crewe on Easter Sunday, two laps you can take the kids. Whitley 10K in beautiful Northy countryside on the outskirts of Northwich Sunday 3rd May you can take the kids. Stone St Michaels 10K Sunday 28th June, 2 laps you can take the kids it's based at the school with the school fair on the same day. All have a base for shelter if the weather's bad. There are two local 10Ks at Newcastle and Clayton but they are undulating with slightly slowere overall times.

Can anyone recommend a good pair of running shoes for a 14 stone, slightly flat footed beginner? π if you can get to Northwich tomorrow, Rosebank sports are holding a Brookes try on day, go for a run in them outdoors, you have to book on though. A family run shop. www.rosebanksports.co.uk01606 48989 I'm in there for a free reflexology taster, they are also doing reiki taster sessions as part of the day

Iβve been doing 3 or 4 per week, 5k minimum, some longer, some slow some a bit quicker. I can highly recommend doing a your nearest Parkrun (Congleton for me). Theyβve really inspired me I guess and everyoneβs really helpful and encouraging. As for footwear I guess you need to try them out. Iβve got some New Balance ones which I found a little bit unforgiving on pavements etc. Switched to Hoka One One and they really are a big upgrade and well worth the money.
