Something else to consider is catering sachets of honey/maple syrup etc. You just need to get sugar and maybe some salt into your body in as convenient a way as possible so these might fit the bill if you can't stomach gels (a lot of gels are pretty disgusting).
In my experience if I've had the big bowl of porridge at the right time (roughly two hours before a longer race) then I'm good for at least a couple of hours with nothing else during the race itself. The theory is that porridge releases its energy into your body fairly slowly due to its fibre content, so it's releasing a slow trickle of energy into your blood stream just as you start needing it in a race. Your mileage may vary though so it's all a game of trial and error.

Saw SiS gels for Β£1 each in Tesco Trent Vegas today. Also, I chomp a few Saltstick Fastchews to keep my salt levels up - works for me!

Hadn't realised you were running with not seeing you before, during and after Had a chesty cold this last week too, so I'll take the time. Would have like to have gone a little quicker but it's a PB. I was there at the end, watching my team mates get prizes yet again!

Benefits of being old I suppose π Of the three "lads" who won the high end prizes the eldest would have only had competition if two other runners in the whole of the UK had turned up.... he ran in his England vest earned with a 41:06 tine in December to win a Vet70 prestige race. The next one down has about 30 runners in the whole of the UK who can give him a race. He's a half marathon runner at 68 still capable of dipping below 1:30.... 1:31 at Conway a few months back. The younger one of the three got lucky because there were no national runners there in his age category but by the same token pre injury it would have taken one of around 30 runners in the UK to give him a race. To put it another way if these lads were transported back to being 29 years of age they've have all dropped times of 24/25 minutes The Vet 75 lady has no competition because she's the top runner in the country. Two years ago she got 101.5% in a Parkrun where the defination of world class running is between 90 and 100%.

Didn't have much time tonight (The Mrs is going out so I've got the kids) so just did a quick 4 miles. I'm due another long run over the next few days. Going to aim for at least 18k, maybe push it to 20k (depending on how I feel).

I've seen the lady, she's breaking records every week isn't she?

She was out with an injury last year I had a nice chat with her at the Staffs Knot we were both watching at the finish line.

Any other fellow Oatcake Runners doing Stafford Half in March? Pathos marathon that day for me. I put my running gear on last night, sat on the bed and fell asleep for over an hour, must have been knackered, ended up doing a bit in the hotel gym

My Stafford experience......ran it in plantar & did 1:58 (regretted it the next day!) Entered the year it was postponed due to weather The year? Will take a 1:55 as a guide mark, although my running during Jan/Feb so far has been good so who knows. Look out for 6ft 6 of Black Pear Jogger with the headband on to stand out from the crowd that little bit more

Anybody been out in this weather?? Got mine done last night(last minute decision) 18 miles incorporating the Potters 'arf route. Didn't really think it through, Bentilee on a Saturday night... I had a poor week (only managed one run) so I made myself go out yesterday (6 miles) and I've just been out again. I was intending on a long run but it was just too windy, and I wasn't feeling 100% either (possibly due to a few π»π» yesterday...ahem..) so I've just done 4 miles. I figure its better than nothing and keeps things ticking over. I really need to get some long runs in soon though. Only 5 weeks left and my longest run so far is only 16km.

Great effort this morning Northy πππββοΈπββοΈ Cheers, 20 miles, decent run started off in the dark where the moon was fabulous, heading out down country lanes, had a barn owl swooping about in front of me a few times, then a female Sparrowhawk hiding in an oak tree overlooking a field for it's breakfast, kestrel hovering, heron venturing out, hares, new lambs, 3 buzzards very close above,a male Sparrowhawk swooped over a hedge and nearly into me, black horned sheep, ladies trotting on horses and a man poohing behind a tree
