I don't agree VP
I think we have lots of good players under contract with a number out of contract (most that we would happily let go as well) and so he should be able to add lots of his own players.
Overall, we underperformed and so we should be looking at top 10 all being well....though I'll settle for staying up.

I will be gutted. A man who will care less about our club than Pullis. Dour and in decline. . Aggressive and discourteous to our club in the past....there is no honeymoon for me. I thought Tony Pullis had to go but if I had thought this was the replacement then I would have stuck with him in the hope he could of recreated what he had in the first three years in the Prem.....I have no idea what the owners of the club think they are doing. What did you think of Pulis's comments re. Stoke when he got the job at Bristol City?

Brilliant post. Not my first choice, but looking at his record he could actually be the one to take us forward.

He is going to have to get that win average up though! His win ratio is 36% which is 7% more than the previous incumbent.

Hughes was handed good clubs on a plate though apart from QPR

I am not arguing the fact that it is a somewhat underwhelming appointment. I just think we need to consider the mitigating factors and get behind the club, like we used to before we became a bunch of whining cretins. Sums this board up to a T. We've always been a bunch of moaning fuckers. It was just less obvious before this t'interweb thingy ;-)

This board reminds me what it was like when Pulis was first appointed. There were so many reasons why he was not the man, and what did we end up doing? As for the QPR debacle, 'arry is one of the top managers in the game and even he couldn't stop the rot there. I can't really say I had a choice of new manager other than wishing for a 'Mourinho' type, but that was never going to happen. As for Hughes being a 'Shit' man, well how many (including you Merkin) would have used that excuse if we'd pulled off a double of the Neville brothers, or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?
Great post, VP.
OS.

I don't think Mark Hughes has one endearing feature and I think he's a twat, always have done. That said if he does the business for us while not boring me into a fucking coma I might warm to him.
I await him finishing mid-table and Pulis saying in the press that he would have got us into Europe with that squad.

*Applause* well said mate. I am / was really underwhelmed by Hughes, and let myself get carried away with exotic dreams of us and Rafa getting cosy, but the stark truth is its looking like Hughes, and frankly for the sake of SCFC (the only important thing above anyones petty whining) we do need to stand firm together and behind our new Manager. Until Christmas anyway, then if he's wank we can lynch him Thanks for giving me a good laugh on a miserable bloody day

I was too young to remember Lou Macari playing though and didn't hate Man United all that much at 3 years of age. At 38 I despise everything about the twats including the numerous management offspring that Fergie inflicted on the country. Infact, I'd rather have Macari back. 38!! My apologies to your family, it must be hard for them.

Pulis said Bristol City were a much bigger club than SCFC and that was his reasoning
Or summit like that

A good post. My issues with Hughes lie in is arrogance. His now infamous QPR comment of 'We’ll never be in this situation again while I’m the manager', paired with his reasons for leaving Fulham being 'as a young, ambitious manager I wish to move on to further my experiences' show him up as being a bit of a self righteous mercenary in my view. People have stated that it is only QPR that has blotted his book, however his time at Man City was hardly a success, and I don't buy into him being 'hard done to'. I believe the following quote sums up how his star was falling well before his time at QPR:
'Hughes spent an astonishing total of £272.75 million in just 18 months at Manchester City, failing to get anywhere near the best out of big name signings such as Adebayor (£25m), Tevez (£25.5m), Lescott (£22m), and Bellamy (£14m); and wasting big money on flops such as Robinho (32.5m), Jo (£18m), and Roque Santa Cruz (£17.5m). After a spell of just 2 wins in 11 league games he was replaced by Roberto Mancini who has since gone on to win the FA Cup and Premier League with many of the same players that Hughes had at his disposal.'
I'll support him all the same, however the initial excitement towards next season have all but disappeared again now.

Pugsley, it was a case of fat fingers not failed wit....your response has made me laugh though.....thanks for the heads up Werrington. I was never a Rimmer or PHW and I don't dislike the bloke even after being nearly bored to death at the end....the comments re Bristol City aren't great or accurate (they arent bigger) but it's not like Hughes turning up at the ground and behaving the way he has. I just don't like him and don't rate his recent record

An excellent post drinking with a glass half full. I just don't know if I wanted Hughes to replace TP, TP must be miffed. I am currently struggling to see the point of it but i'm not gutted.
My big issue between the two is TP was a shit footballer & worked hard as a manager & appreciated his club/players/fans/surroundings. Hughes played at the top level and has an aura of arrogance about him which doesn't sit well with me
He does have a big point to prove though

If he has anything about him he will want to do exceptionally well at Stoke to prove that QPR was just a blip on a pretty decent managerial record.

No he didnt. The owners bought Robinho, Jo, Adebayor and Tevez. Bellamy cost nowhere near £14m, RSC smashed in the goals for him at BB (20+ a season) and we all know strikers cost ££££.
