Etheringtons comments are a bit daft, as I don't think fans views have really played much of a part. The club have done this because of a change of course they decided on. I think he's realised like TP that his time might be up. He was lucky imo not be sold last summer, I'd be amazed if he's still here come September.

Could Pulis be holding us to ransom? On the grounds of unfair dismissal? He's done it with other clubs...

BREAKING NEWS: Two men found hanged at Stoke on Trent barber's. I don't think Dave will be too unhappy, and even Sid has been questioning TP lately...

Could Pulis be holding us to ransom? On the grounds of unfair dismissal? He's done it with other clubs... He's on a one year rolling contract so no chance. I doubt he'd even try it anyway. I'm sure he'll be we'll compensated/rewarded anyhow.

I personally am devo pulis has gone. For me, his first game in his second spell was the beginning of my love and obsession with stoke city... I have only ever known pulis as the manager, and i honestly believe by letting him go, we have lost our safetly net and regular premier league seasons. Ok the games became frustrating, and yes there was nothing worse than sitting back on 1-0 leads. But in my opinion, the direct style is far superior to tippy tappy crap and always will be. As he always said, why make 20 passes to score when you can do it in 3. When it worked, it worked perfect and not even the best teams could handle us. We are struggling due to the lack of quality wingers and fullbacks, not because of pulis' style n tactics. No one will score the goals we need if they don't get service. Im afraid now Key players like begovic, huth, shawcross, nzonzi,.... The spine of the team will now be more open to leaving.. For me, it would only cushion the blow of letting pulis go if we got rafa. Anyone else and I'm worried. If we did get rafa, then maybe the bigger players would want to stay and play for him n 'progress' with the club.... But realistically where else can stoke go apart from premier league survival and top 10 finishes ?? To break into that top 7 is highly unlikely, n if we did, maybe it would be for a one off season n not a regular thing.... Fingers crossed to the future. Pulis, I salut you and will always hold a place in my heart for you and the special days you have given me. I will miss your mad line side rants and cheers. I wish you all the best ( as Wales manager ) and not as a competitor Good luck Your 1st and 2nd paragraphs haven't existed for 2 seasons now. Key players IMO are more likely to stay if we bring in a respected manager to freshen things up. Rafa? No chance. Top 10 is achievable. Top 7 also as part of a 5 year project that includes developing our youth setup and increasing attendances (capacity). Good luck Pulis. And what have we had missing the last 2 seasons.... Quality wingers....

Your quote of Etherington suggests that the decision taken today has something or anything to do with the fans? I listened to it live and was quite surprised by that observation. The fans have had nothing whatsoever to do with it! I have not contributed to the recent Pulis debate because I can genuinely see both sides of the argument. I think that his departure was both inevitable and appropriate but I can also understand the alternative view. On the one hand, we should never have been as close to relegation as we ended up this year, especially given where we were on Boxing Day. On the other hand, look at where we were when he took over. What we have achieved since; an FA Cup Final and Europe, albeit by default. We have had five years of Premier League stability. He is a man who left his mother's death bed to inspire us to an unlikely victory against Aston Villa. Peter Coates is a billionaire businessman from a family of nine children in a council house in Stoke on Trent and if you have been a Stoke supporter for a number of years, as I accept you may well have been, you will know that he is not persuaded by virtual riots at the ground. He is unlikely to have been influenced by a few posters on an internet message board. There has been no real dissent at any games; the fans have remained Stoke, loyal, loud and proud. We will never know precisely why Coates pulled the trigger today. It could be the signing of our most expensive player ever on a four year contract when he was 31, coupled with the fact that our previous record signing played in exactly the same position and had been signed only twelve months earlier. The effect of this business was that one of our two record signings was permanently consigned to the bench! It could be something to do with the fact that as he was signing the striker referred to above, he completely failed to address massive deficiencies in the squad; we went through ten Premier League transfer windows without signing a full back! It could be that we constantly had countless players played out of position, even though we had spent nigh on £100 million of the Chairman's money. It could be the thinly veiled adverse comments about the academy, when our Chairman has made it plain that the academy is one his priorities. It could be the insistence on buying older players with little resale value, which has contributed to a lunatic net spend for a club of our size; most of which comes from the Chairman's pocket! I don't know why Pulis has gone. I haven't contributed to the debate because I genuinely have mixed feelings. I am currently excited for the future and sad at the same time. I will ultimately make my decision based upon who replaces Pulis and how we progress or regress in the future. And therein lies the difficulty. I am a professional person and am moderately successful. Any fool can judge today's decision with the benefit of hindsight, as I and many others will do. Peter Coates has not made his money by hindsight. He doesn't wish that he had invested in gold when it had already quadrupled in value. He puts his money where his mouth is and backs his judgement. Although I wasn't a fan first time around, he has demonstrated a business acumen almost beyond compare. He has taken the decision and I will back his judgement. He is braver than me, but that is why I still work fourteen hour days and baulk at any speculative investment. But please, lets stop the ridiculous suggestion that the fans have contributed to his decision!

well u grove lads, all u have done for months is slag Pulis and several Stoke players off, mainly Walters.
Even turning your backs on them to watch Crewe. Yet claiming to be Stoke, Born and Bred and Proud.
Instead of being a Bearpit, you turned into toypit.
You and others have undermined Pulis for months, you forget where we came from and what Pulis and put in. Dont forget his mothers death!!
ST7..... hang your heads in shame. The abuse you gave a decnt man was shameful.

would like to thank tony for what he has achieved at stoke, nobody can deny the success that he has achieved , although i have never liked the man or his tactics, they were what stoke needed at the time to get promotion and to achieve stability in the premiership, brave decision from mr coates, although for some reason you feel excited and worried at the same time.

I predicted Pulis would be gone this Summer, but I haven't been jumping for joy because I think he tried his best for the club in his own way. I thought he was choking up in recent interviews, so who knows what's been going on in the background? I honestly think we can look forward to next season with some optimism; sadly with Tone we would have had more of the same. I would sooner see Rafa here than RDM, though. Just something about him that I don't like!

I wanted Pulis gone but to say he's in the bottom half is barbaric. Tony has done a fantastic job and should be remembered for it, if ever he returns to the Brit, he should get a standing ovation. I personally just felt his time had come to an end as we were stagnating and just lacked any idea how to push on, but I will always be forever thankful for all Tony has achieved here.
