Bego for me. I'm interested by the posters who voted for Kightly & Whelan. Obviously they have a highly developed sense of humour!

Being the first Stoke player to play for England in umpteen years counts for something, doesn't it? For the fourth year in a row, my vote goes to Ryan Shawcross. I don't think people appreciate quite how good he's been, the miracles that our centre backs have performed while defending pretty much on their own, how exceptionally accurate Ryan's long passing is comlared to the rest of the back line and how much we miss him when he isn't playing, such as Southampton at home. It seems harsh that Ryan has never won player of the season. In his first full season at this level he was arguably our second best player behind Etherington. The following season Huthy won it. Ryan and Ethers were probably close behind. Last season I was surprised Crouch won it... I would have had Ryan. No doubt he would have been second. This season it was between him and Bego up until about Christmas... since then only one winner I'm afraid. By my reckoning Ryan would be in the top two/three in each of the last four seasons and should have won it last season. I might start a thread/poll along the lines of 'Who Has Been Our Best/Most Important Player Over Our Five Years in the Prem?'. 1) Shawcross 2) Fuller 3) Etherington?

Surely it can't only be me thinking it's pretty grim and a sad indictment of our season (no offence Bego) that a keeper will absolutely piss our player of the season awards. It's a damning indictment, mate, and not just because we haven't got a single outfield player who's been consistent enough to claim more than a small handful of votes. For me, I was complaining Bego wasn't vocal enough during our abysmal run. I'm not saying he was in any way to blame for our poor form, but I thought if he was the finished article he'd have instilled a bit more confidence into our shakier players, and a swift boot up the backside to our sulkier ones. Again, no offence to Bego, but for someone to get such a huge proportion of the votes, you'd think they'd be absolutely flawless. Like Abdy in 2008/09 or Steino in 92/93. Bego's been good, very good, but not perfect.

I voted for SUPER Jon.
Now that Rory, Salif et al have left us, I think Jon has been the player who best displays the "committed" style of play that has kept us at this level for 5 seasons.
(E.G. The peno v Quite Probably Rubbish, as an example of the "bottle" required to keep us playing competitive PulisBall at this level)
An honourable mention for Beggo, who is almost certainly our most sellable player and one of the best young keepers in the world ... But I don't feel he has contributed as much as SUPER Jon to keeping us up. I think Ryan has dipped a little bit this season, from his best of previous years and the jury is (for me) still out on The Fonz (though he has the makings of a top player in central midfield)

Bego would be such an easy and quick vote.
I went for Jerome. Very rarely lets the team or himself down whenever he gets the chance to play. Hasn't let his head drop or become a mardarse.

Bego on standard easily but..... he will be leaving us, so no long term commitment there. So I voted for John Walters for his incessant endeavour and goals, albeit not enough! The "2nd best defence in Europe" in November, fell apart thereafter and we conceded too many soft goals to warrant a defender coming out on top. Midfield did not score enough goals, so I have gone Johhny Walters. (Tin Hat on)

You think Walters has kept us up?! If he didn't miss penalties, open goals and easy chances we may well have been safe by now. It's great that he's committed but he is shite whenever (mostly) he gets the ball. He's had one good game this season against Liverpool. How has he contributed the most to keeping us up?! Genuinely mystified as to what footballing ability he offers us and whenever I pose the question it gets ignored.

Just tick the player Mick and thats it - the site remembers your selection.
Must admit to looking for 5 mins for a 'Submit' button :-)
Think you can change your vote at any point after

Asmir Begovic - Consistent, reliable, without his saves we would defo be in the mire. Also met him briefly before kick off at the Torquay pre-season match. He was charming, happy to talk, photos etc. Decent bloke, great professional. Ryan comes a close second because of the England call up. It's easy to forget what a real honour that is in this age of club and player power.

Begovic without a shadow of a doubt. I'm fairly certain we'd be down already without him.
He should go very far.

Thanks guys. Ticked. Bego for me, but it wasn't difficult. I can't think of one outfield player who has been anywhere near deserving of an award this season, and it's a long time since I've been able to say that.
OS.

Shawxross has had a decent season , but has not progressed from last. I think the next 12 months could be crucial for him in his long term international ambitions. I'm not convinced he'll ever make the grade however...

Bego easily. Seeing Walters coming second in the votes just shows how much Pulis has brainwashed a certain percentage of us. He has been average at best for nearly 2 years and apart from 2 games this season ( where he was great) he's offered very very little going forward. He works very hard granted but that is the least we expect off these players earning thousands a week. It's a sad state of affairs when walters is second in the voting and is one of the reasons we won't "progress" under Pulis.
