It was a stupid challenge but it was one footed and it wasn't dangerous. Their player made a right meal of it as well. Never a sending off.
N'zonzi was excellent on Saturday. It is so difficult with him because you can't help but get the feeling that most of the time he is playing well within himself. Whether that is down to him or his manager is open to debate but clearly there is so much more to come from him, if he can be given license express himself a little.

Agree 100% would love to see him have a little more reign, i think he is the best midielder we have had for a number of years.

I have to admit Robo I was definitely holding my breath until the yellow was brandished , I can't help thinking it was a close thing to a red being shown , and if committed in the last 20 minutes rather than the first 20 the outcome may have been different.
The good sense and leniency shown by the ref , didn't stop me screaming for a red card for Grant Holt though ,when he dished it out to Huth soon after .........

If that's a red it's time for me to stop watching football.
It wasn't a good challenge but does that make it a red?
Yellow and nothing more for me.

The only thing that will limit Nzonzi is himself.
Technically a superb player but has temperament problems that will hamper him the higher he goes.
If he can sort that out then the sky is literally the limit.
That 70 yard pass into space for Jerome in the second half on Saturday was world class.

He left the ground and went in with his studs showing. You can argue the rights and wrongs of it but in this day and age that can earn a red card and the players all know this. What annoyed me was the attitude behind it - he got caught on the ball, lost it and lashed out in a fit of petulance. He couldn't control himself, and that split second of stupidity could have cost us the game.

If we start giving red cards for that, I will lose interest completely. I've even heard people suggest Jerome should have walked for challenge on Bunn. I'd have been fucked off if Jerome hadn't have challenged for the ball. The premier league is pathetic really.

I thought it could have been red at the time, having seen the replay i'm sure it was a yellow.

Talking of that pass, it shows just how important a willing (and quick) runner is to turn a pass like that from a percentage ball into space into a quality long pass.
Jerome made the ball with his pace and determination to run the channels. I have got tired of saying that our inability to run the channels and get defenders on the turn is a major factor in why we have been so utterly shit for the best part of 2 seasons.
Fuller worked the channels better than anyone and he turned many a poor ball into a good one.
The pass from N'zonzi was superb but were it played up to Crouch and Walters, it would have been mopped up by the full-back, passed back to the keeper and no-one would have thought any more of it.
Playing good passes requires movement ahead and preferably pace. We have neither which is often why our players look like they couldn't pass water! Our system is so rigid, so inflexible and our players given so little license to express themselves, that passing is often impossible anyway because of the sheer lack of movement and options ahead of the ball.

Deal with that and playing for a club or a manager who gives him a little more trust and licence he could be world class. Sort these issues out I firmly believe we could have a £20/30M player on our hands.

It,s all about opinions, but besides the yellow, N,zonzi is without doubt a class act, but he definitely needs to curb the petulance!

Very True johnno. you've made a lot of sense in your posts on this thread. There are plenty of positives at Stoke City but they'll always be restricted whilst this manager remains.
