Extremely sad news and no age to go.
I was behind the goal at Peterbrough that night when he scored his thunderbolt, having driven over from Brum where I was on a sales course. It was a long, lonely but joyful journey back after THAT goal had taken us to Wembley.
As oldstokie alluded to earlier, I hope that this tragedy can galvanise the current crop of players from their suspended animation and fire them on to stay in the Prem.
RIP Tupper and thanks for the memories!

Sad news. In an era for the club when glorious moments had been few and far between, that goal at Posh was a standout. Unlike many on here, I can't claim to have been at many of the landmark moments in our history. But I was at that game and it was one of the best mentals ever :-) Rest in Peace.

I had the very brief pleasure of playing alongside 'Warey' in my lads-n-dads days.
I have a couple of stories I'd like to share. 'Warey' actually played a year above himself for Audley. When the Newcastle lads-n-dads committee found out he got band from playing because he was too young.
The other story was when I played alongside him in a 6 aside tournament somewhere in Crewe. Crewe Alex had put a side in the competition and we draw them in the quarter final. Barry Bannell was the Crewe coach and he was telling the Crewe lads to get tight to the defender and turn their marker but elbow the marker as they turned. We all heard the team talk 'Banell' gave and it put fear into some of us. It didn't have any effect on 'Warey'. He walked onto the pitch as nothing had ever been said, brave as a lion.
I imagined he would turn out to be a real 'gent'. A quiet lad who just got on with enjoying his football.
We'll all miss you 'Warey'
Rest in peace

Such sad news. Paul Ware wore the red and white stripes in the unmistakable manner of a true fan of the club. I can still picture him covering every blade of grass for the cause. So fitting that he scored that crucial goal at Peterborough.
RIP, Paul.

When Warey left Stoke (or more to the point was forced out of the club) in 1994, we wrote a tribute article about him (I'll try and get online a bit later). Shortly afterwards, we received a phone call from him, thanking us for taking the time to write about him. His wife apparently was in tears reading it! Warey explained that he didn't want to leave Stoke but felt he had little alternative. He was actually preparing to make his way up to sign for Stockport when he received a phone call from Lou Macari, explaining that he'd returned to take over from Joe Jordan and he tried to persuade him to remain at Stoke. Warey told Lou that he'd shaken on the deal to sign for Stockport and didn't feel he could go back on his word. There have been only a handful of players who've contacted The Oatcake since we started in 1988. Among them are Peter Fox and Gordon Banks who both wrote to thank us for articles we'd written about them and Sir Stanley Matthews sent us a note as well. Paul Ware is not out of place in that company. RIP Tupper.

Gutted to have heard this sad news today.
Paul will always be a player who I remember fondly from my childhood and he is part of what I recall as being a golden era with the likes of Stein, Overson, Cranson & Gleghorn. Somebody posted on here earlier that Warey was underrated. I couldn't agree more. He was a great player.
I'm a little too young to remember him scoring against Peterborough. But the best memory I have of him was his 2 goals against Huddersfield in December 1992. Does anybody have any footage of these goals? Or any the others he scored that season? I would be grateful if anybody could post these on here or on YouTube.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Ware family at this sad sad time. You've lost a wonderful son, husband, & father. I feel like I've lost a hero.
RIP Tupper & thank you for everything you ever did for Stoke City.

Immensely moving and immensely strong for you to come on here. But after meeting you all I kind of expected it, as you without doubt one of the most inspirational families I have ever met, and it was obvious your dad was unbelievably proud of you. He was taken far too early from you, but you will have so many brilliant memories to bring you comfort and even make you smile and laugh sometime in the future. Your dad will always be a legend, and Paul Ware will always be loved by his own family and the Stoke City family. All my own families thoughts and prayers are with you.
