Just received some devastating news from a close friend of Paul's family, that Stoke City legend Paul Ware has sadly passed away.
Paul's family wanted me to put a thread on The Oatcake to let all Stokies know. That they wanted to let Stokies know of his passing so soon afterwards is a true mark of the family who I had the amazing pleasure of meeting when I interviewed Paul before Xmas for The Oatcake. It also shows that the many, many good luck and support posts put on by Stokies on here meant so much to Paul and his family
All I can add is that a Stoke City legend, and one of us, is now in heaven. I can honestly say that the few hours I spent with the Wares's were inspirational, and the dignity and class they have shown throughout these past few horrible years have defied belief.
Both Paul and his family have gone through unbelievable pain and suffering in recent years, and I pray that they take some comfort in that fact that Paul Ware was not only a Stoke City legend, but from what I saw myself and everyone says, a truly fantastic husband, dad, friend and human being.
Paul Ware 1970-2013 We will always be with you

Awful, awful news. Took the wind out of my sails completely given previous updates appeared positive. A man with more passion for this football club in his little toe than the current crop have collectively but , more importantly, a decent family man who will be sadly missed.
RIP Tupper ~ best wishes to all concerned.

Gutted. Absolutely gutted. Paul Ware will forever be "one of us". I am not ashamed to admit that I had tears in my eyes reading that. My old man (and no doubt yours Bunny) will no doubt give him a hearty welcome, legend to them both, that he no doubt is. So very sorry to hear this news and obviously pass on my very best wishes to the Ware family. I hope our players take to the pitch in Black Armbands on Saturday and a minutes silence before the Norwich game would be absolutely certain of kickstarting a wonderful atmosphere to help our team start that very important game.

Tragic news indeed for all Stoke fans particularly those who go back as far as Paul's playing days.
Maybe he'll be best remembered for a very windy night in Peterborough in April 1992 when his goal sent us to Wembley to contest the Autoglass Trophy final . . . . In the area finals Stoke and Peterborough United shared three goals in a exciting 3–3 and a Paul Ware goal earned Stoke a 2nd leg victory.
RIP Paul and condolences to family and friends.

I will never forget Peterborough away to get to wembley . Rip paul . Sent from my GT-I9300 using proboards Nobody that was there will forget that. I was a 15 year old lad who with 7 others, bobbed school for the afternoon (with parents permission) to get the "pop and crisps" Coach 2 down to Peterborough. It left the Vic at 2.30pm as I remember. I was stood right at the front and was up on the fence, and visibly on Sky coverage, when Paul Ware lashed in that most amazing free kick. It remains, and probably always will do, one of the best nights of my Stoke City supporting life.

Only logged in this morning for a bit of light relief and the first thing I saw was this headline. Horrible news.
Sounds like he has a wonderful family, and I hope they'll take some comfort in knowing that Paul was loved by us Stokies.
Not too many players have scored a goal to take us to Wembley, and what a goal! The first thing I think of every time I see or hear his name is that absolute rocket into the top corner. Gave me and every Stokie there that night the most mental of mentals.
R.I.P Paul. You'll never be forgotten

Horrible news. What a cracking fella. Always remember him coming to our gaffe once when my bros and me were young uns to have a knock around on our garden. We knew his Uncle and he knew we were massive Stokies. He didn't have to. Never forget that and his goal at Peterborough. One of those special moments that was. We were sat to the right of the Stokies.
RIP Paul and condolences to family and friends.
