btw we may as well have a personal abuse amnesty on this thread, it's only going to get more heated... So if anyone's calling anyone else a class traitor, a traitor to the flag-waving nation etc etc, don't bother reporting please... Just rejoice in that news

I never said she was an hero. But she a bloody good prime minister. Like I've said, whether you agree with her or not, she had the balls to make tough decisions when no one else would.

The powerhouse that is all but bankrupt now, running one of the largest current deficits of any government, yes even worse then many of the bankrupt nations in the Eurozone, which will soon have government debt of 100% of GDP? Destroyed manufacturing and place so much emphasis on financial services that got us into such a mess in 2008 Blame mumf and his labour party. You can blame the vile menage-a-trois of Pinochet, Thatcher & Reagan for instigating the descent into neo-liberalism. Blame Labour for doing fuck-all about it when they had the opportunity.

She privatised a dying industry. Get over yourselves!!! She sold the entire fucking country to asset strippers and did all the key things to dismantle the Welfare State and demolish 100 years of socialism (which had got pathetically brittle, divided and easy to bowl over at that point). Living and governing are moral projects. The woman was an amoral sociopath.

Whatever you think of her policies, the woman was a proper and strong leader unlike the absolutely dire spectacle of party 'leaders' right now. None of them have any principles and they'll bend whichever way the wind is blowing.

RIP to the greatest prime minister this country has seen. The ones who hate her are still bitter because all the mines closed hahaha. If they were so economical why haven't we reopened them? Plenty of coal mines have been re-opened...

Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, didn't they all do well too. Our most effective PM of the 20th century according to most expert polls was Attlee, who was totally collegiate and almost invisible. But... whoops... a socialist. Not an egomaniac. Oh dear how unfashionable that idea is.

The nation right now is very split and our so called leaders have no principles at all apart from getting elected. Miliband could actually be leading a socialist push right now as people are sick of politicians but hes opted for the 'softly softly, tweak round the edges approach' rather than anything radical

Virtually all her opinions were the complete opposite of mine. I spend a lot of the period 1979 - 1990 slagging her off.
However, I was pleased to have a female prime minister elected (pity it was for that party) I had a grudging respect for the fact that she stood by what she believed in and did not give in to pressure from others
RIP Maggie

And you're right, the Attlee government did grow straight out of the War Cabinet. I stick to my guns about cults of personality in politics tho.

It's not necessary to have strength in a 'I will crush everyone else with differing opinions' sense. I guess the word principled would be a better word. I'd just respect politicians more if they stuck to their guns on something and actually showed they believed in something regardless of whether it was a vote winner or not.
