What a player. Excellent again today, what a start to the season. Best centre back in the prem right now? . If he doesn't get picked for the next England squad I will never support England again. He won't - at least as long as Pearce is in the general vicinity of the England hierachy.

Shawcroos and Huth have been immense the last two weeks. Ryan compared well with Cahill yesterday and he would be getting in England squads if he was at a more media friendly club.

It's not much to do with who Shawcross plays for as things stand so can we drop the paranoia please?

"Ryan compared well with Cahill yesterday".
He didn't. There was no comparison at all. Shawcross was streets ahead of Cahill yesterday and I would even go so far as to say that he was "light years" ahead of him.
When KJ came on, Cahill didn't know what day it is and his so called calm distribution, which Ryan allegedly doesn't possess, turned into aimless lumps forward and miscued clearances into touch.

perhaps with our slight shift in play, with more passing through midfield it will allow Shawcross to demonstrate he can pass a ball 10yards along the floor, something we have always known he could do. This is essential criteria for an England centre back - being able to defend is not important hence why Cahill is picked ahead of him. He therefore may get picked. I am not sure why but over the last few years it seems that the most important attribute for a centre half according to international football selectors has become being able to pass a ball like xavi rather than knowing how to defend. Its like picking a striker every week cos he knows how to defend well

I heard one pundit say that he's a far better player than his critics suggest, as if this was some sort of surprise and yesterday's game was a one off.. Ryan Shawcross a career held back by North London Cunt #1 A.Wenger

I really think it's time to sign him up on a long time contract! Think the current one is up in July 2014. Another 6 years or more hopefully! ;D

I had hoped that might have changed under Hodgson but it still seems there are five or six ahead of Shawcross for a variety of reasons.

Not one defender on the pitch came close to Shawcross in terms of performance yesterday.

Was Hodgson there or was there a Liverpool reserve game on somewhere?

Shawcross is our rock. He would be a massive massive loss if we ever left.

Was Hodgson there or was there a Liverpool reserve game on somewhere? Someone probably tipped him off that Lampard and Terry were only on the bench.

Ryan Shawcross is, without doubt, one of the best defenders our club has ever had. And he's getting better with every passing game. Totally agree. I loved his hint of a smile last week when he made that magnificent last minute goal line clearance. The only downside is will someone make an offer that he can't refuse.

Don't understand this "Shawcross' distribution" argument. Surely he can make a 10 yard pass to another defender, which England seem to do all game?
