Correct. At 1.7M its a great business deal. If he flops its cost us next to nowt in comparison. If he does well we get a bargain. If he does really well we sell him on for a big profit - which helps with the self sufficiency. It also gets our name out and about in the USA - along with the friendlies. Scotland is hardly the foreign market is it. See the bit about youngsters

Maybe they will both turn out to be good, but my point is that we spend bloody ages signing what can be perceived as mediocre players - at the time of signing. As for getting our name out and about in the US. If we play like we did at the back end of last season, then we'll be more likely to deter potential fans rather than attract them. So, you don't want us to sign Scottish or US players. Which nationalities do you want us to sign?

You are telling us something we've known for ages! Anyway, Hackett said our new right back will be signing before the weekend and this new right back is apparently Cameron. So you have just repeated what he said yesterday! Olsson is a LB or LM.

surely Hackett was joking about cameron being the RB. He was taking the mickey about wilson playing LB. Cameron and Wilson are midfielders. Cameron defensive and Marc attacking. Cameron is playing CB at the minute for dynamo.

What is the decision? Work-permit?

Post by nutterpotter on Jul 11, 2012 9:00:19 GMT
Surely the decision would just be about whether to accept the bid? The bid submitted to the MLS rahter than the club, Houston Dynamo.

What is the decision? Work-permit? I think basically whether to accept the bid. The mysterious MLS head office have the power to say 'no' even though Houston and Cameron want it. Apparently nobody knows who actually makes the calls behind the scenes at MLS, and they have been known to make some inconsistent, strange decisions on which transfers to allow and which they veto.

The MLS set up is very strange to English (or even European) eyes. Players contracts all held by the MLS and I suppose no promotion and relegation stems from this. I suppose that's just the way the Yanks do things.
It does seem to keep wages down though - there will be several season ticket holders in the Boothen who earn more than the average MLS player!

Have we actually agreed anything with Cameron, or is this just all so that we have permission to officially talk to him? It seems mad that there could be all this fuss over it and he could still reject us.

It seems mad that there could be all this fuss over it and he could still reject us. Reading between the lines of the interviews with his manager, team-mate and chairman on that phone-in, they all seem to think Cameron is desperate for the MLS to give the Stoke offer the green light. So, with things being what they are, you get the impression things are sorted between Stoke and him to his satisfaction and everything's ready to roll bar the MLS okay.....and the work permit appeal

It seems mad that there could be all this fuss over it and he could still reject us. It is a bit odd isn't it? Without knowing exactly how business is done in the USA, I assume that our discussions with the club have included discussions with Cameron and a sort of "package" containing approval of both club and the player is presented to the MLS. If it doesn't happen that way it would be a most UnAmerican example of inefficiency.

We seem to be the only team who has made a bid, despite talk of Everton and Schalke.
He's 27 this week and is 'only' earning $150,000-a-year.
His time is running out and he must be desperate for a life-changing contract before it's too late. You'd think he'd jump at anything we offered within reason.

I think we can assume Cameron will be a Stoke player but I also think we might be attributing this signing with a little too much significance.
