How sad. Did a lot of my under age drinking in the Duke of Welly in Hanley which happily coincided with our best ever team. We all had teenage crushes on his wife Cynthia who was a real glamourpuss.
RIP Gerry.

He was at the Crown Inn in Goostrey with Cynthia. The pub actually closed down on Weds this week and the place was packed with his friends for one final time. It was a real party atmosphere and despite the financial pressures of the whole situation he was his happy, bubbly self. Now this has happened it's such a terrible shame for such a lovely bloke.

He use to run The Old Swan Inn on Hartshill Road on Newcastle road out of Stoke . We use to go in there before Stoke's home matches many moons ago . He played quite a few first team games in the old first division .

Yes met him when he ran the Greyhound at Yarlet. Cynthia was indeed a very good looking girl and was reigning Miss Stone at the time I met him. Not met him for many years now. Very sad news. Had he been poorly??

Gutted to hear of this .Knew Gerry well from the Greyhound at Yarlet when a load of the lads played footy for them. We stopped at Goostrey on my stag day 10 years ago, coach pulled up on the car park at 10.00 and Cynth was shouting no stag partys until she saw who it was . Gerry was delighted to see a coach of the old lads. RIP Gerry. www.crowninngoostrey.co.uk/about.html

Remember Gerry playing against Everton at Goodson park, I,m sure he hit the bar with an overhead kick, that day. We ended up drawing 1-1, and I Remember Maurice Setters punching a goal bound shot over the bar. Everton missed the penalty, hence the 1-1 score.

A good player but without being one whose name was first on the team sheet. But he was on Stoke's books for longer than most players.
Just 2 years older than me. 67 is no age to die. Do we have any information yet on the circumstances?
Condolences to his wife and family and RIP Gerry.

Was it Gerry the players kept giving the ball to,because he was the only forward in the 9-1 win over Ipswich who hadn't scored in that game?
RIP Gerry.

Met him a few times in the Greyhound on yarlet bank..always happy to talk football, even when I reminded him of the time paul reaney put him in the butler street paddock! Revenge was sweet, he said, as one of his team-mates "sorted reaney out" ;D top man, will be missed, thoughts are with his family, very sad.RIP Gerry.

He was a good servant to the club when he pulled on the red and white shirt, and it's always sad to lose one of our old timers.
R.I.P., Gerry, and sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Sad news. If I remember rightly, Gerry took over the No.7 shirt after Stan retired ,he was a very skillful player who provided Big John with some great crosses .R.I.P. Gerry.

He must have been quite young when he left us and joined Shrewsbury Town because I go back to 1970 and I don't remember him at all and I guess he would only have been around 25 then. Here he is in the Shrewsbury Town lineup from 69/70, front row on the left:

There can't be many players who can say they started their careers playing understudy to Sir Stan (and Keith Bebbington, of course.)

Remember the days when you used to beat George Best as the best looking footballer in the Football Review...lol.Feel sure you will meet up & have a drink with George...RIP Well remembered. Long before the days of the Interweb and text voting, polls in those days relied on manuscript signatures. One of my best friends at the time (and still) schlepped round the streets and collected votes for the Football League Review best looking player. Very fond memories of those days. My sister in law lives in Goostrey and we popped into the pub after the Bolton game (final game of 09-10 season). He (and Cynthia) were looking terrific - and a very warm welcome.
