Always remember Cambo's trickery on the bye line in that 4-4 draw with Luton the week before, turned on a sixpence and crossed it for Berry to nod in. Brian Clough said it was that that got him into the England team. Wonder if Sunderland fans hated that home strip as much as we hated our pin stripe shirt. That's truly woeful

My god if only we could transport the creativity and ability of that complete midfield quartet of Thomas Mcilroy bracewell and Chamberlain into the side now, together with Peter Hampton a quality natural left back and then our current our goalkeepers, other defenders and forwards.
Wow is all you could say.

Why have i never heard of Peter Hampton, i am 39yrs old, went most home games in the early 80's as a young pup, also very knowledgeable about footy and Stoke City FC.....yet i can't remember him at all ;D ???

That's truly woeful Was thinking the same and that perhaps our shirt wasn't that bad in comparison at least it had red and white stripes. I bet Barker wishes he could swap that midfield for ours now once he had decided to change to the Charlie Hughes way!

Thats not fox in goal?? Is that Harrison??
When did we sign fox then??
Also Hampton does look good........where did he go???
Looking back it looked quite a poor standard though!!!!

Yep Hampton looked a class act- where did he go and where did we get him from?- I dont recall him from our promotion season- but my brain is scrambled with age

We signed Foxy in 1978 but he was banned for this game after his sending off in the classic Luton 4-4 game
Hampton joined us from Leeds and later joined Burnley

That first goal must be one of the worst bits of goal-keeping ever commited in the name of Stoke City !!

Chambo would sit on the bench in our present set up. Too much of a luxury for our Tone I'm afraid. That midfield was one of our best ever and for me was on par with the '74 midfield. Richie Barker wanted shooting for pissing about with them. POMO was the sysytem, which manager in their right mind would coach his players to continually hoof it thus completely by-passing the flair players of the side? I mean who would be stupid enough to do that.

Great memories.
This was around the time I started going Victoria Ground as a season ticket holder.
Remember 'Big Bren' playing up front struggling to control any ball that came into him, but he controlled everything when he played Centre-half!!!
Chamberlain, to this day, is the best player I've ever seen play in a Stoke shirt.

great video
sometimes you need reminding of things:
someone in red and white stripes had a worse strip than our 84/85 disaster.
the empty open terrace shows how the arse was falling out of attendances in the early 80's, ourselves included. Checking the bible (OK, the encyclopedia of Stoke City, 1868 to 1994) there were just 16,406 there.

1. Harrison 2. Parkin (?) 3. Hampton 4. Bracewell 5. Watson 6. McAughterie 7. Maguire 8. McIlroy 9. O'Calaghan 10. Thomas 11. Chaimberlain
Is that right?
Edit - sorry, missed out Bracewell

Nah too early for parkin i reckon. Didnt parkin get moved from midfield to right back and then he became ace?? England B team caps??
Was it parkinson?? Bouldy played their aswell early on before moving to centre half.........and the rest is history as they say!!
