slangking,
Just to restore some balance. Where would we have been had the Icelandics not turned up in the first place?
Credit to Pulis, and to Coates for getting us where we are today. This is best and most balanced Stoke side i've seen since 1983.
With 12 games to go and the players we have at our disposal TP has the opportunity to put the final nail in the coffin of his many doubters.
I still worry that he will resort to type in critical games and we end up drawing and losing when we should have won and drawn
Many though believe that with the players at his disposal we will reach the promised land.
As Surrey Stokie says on the other post, we will know truly where we are on March 4th. Hopefully we'll still be first or second.
As for comparing with Boskamp, he was too gung ho, but again in the spirit of fairness did he not have us at 4th at Christmas, only for the icelandics to run out of funds? Worst manager ever? Kamara,Ball,Paddon,Asprey?

Who two??? Ilford, you've just admitted that Pulis is a better manager than Boskamp by saying.... FACT: under Boskamp we lost ONE more home game than the season before under Pulis Results speak for themselves i'm afraid. Question Were you coatesout2 on the old rivals board?? If so where has that username gone now, also i'm sure you were firmly in the camp of "i aint going while pulis is in charge"

For turning a top six side into a 14th place side he is certainly the worst, look at how we improved when he fuct off, wasted a million on that waste of space Bangoura, the managers you mention never did anything as bad as that.

ROFLMFAO the side he inherited was no WAY a top six side, we barley had 14 players at the start of the season

Exactly i'm tony lol.
He spent £500k on Lightbourne who never looked like he could score.
At least Bangoura could score. The problem was he went to the African nations and his brother came back.

For me Ball was the worst manager Little and was a shocker Kamara was only here a short while (awful though it was!) but big Bosclown wasn't much above them his only redeeming feature was interesting interviews and he seemed a decent bloke. But he never was never and never will be a manager he simply hasn't got the right mentality!

I just dont get why people (Dave from ilford) drag things like this up all the time. Probably for the same reason that we have to have an "Oi Pulis Hating Wankstains" thread every day of the week. Time to let it lie methinks. Unfortunately some folk are too interested in prvong themselves right.

trebor,
actually agree on this, unlike the others we actually got some entertainment along the way.
He was never going to take us down, nor for that matter take us up. Had some great way days with him, and some crap home days.

To be fair to Ilford it cuts both ways imtony. He's having a dig at someone who basically set the criteria for success so high for one manager, and then so ridiculously low for another, and then consistently backed up his arguments with quite barmy assertions about draws away to Colchester being very respectable results.
Like I said above, it's time to move on tho. No-one comes out covered in too much glory in the whole for and against Tony argument, including myself. But one this is for certain, this is the best season in living memory for a lot of fans, so we really ought to savour the moment.
As it's taken 23 years to get this close, some of us may well be dead and buried before it happens again!

We will never know what would have happened, we could just as easily have done this 2 years ago with the FULL backing of all the board, but someone kept his wallet shut, and that forced the Icelanders hand in the end , you seem to think its a good thing that because of Pulis and Coates we are 2 years behind where we could have been . You got solid proof that we're 2 years behind because of Coates and Pulis?. The Icelandics were a waste of fuckin space and i hope that they're as sick as letting Pulis go as to what those fuckin anti no-marks no doubt are. Blah, blah, blah, blah blah, eat the cock of the messiah you make me fuckin sick by STILL NOT giving Pulis credit. Go support someone else.

Steady on with the Icelanders - things got sticky at the end, but they were saviours when they first arrived. Let's just be thankful for the way it turned out, eh?

ID,
I don't wish to appear rude but I really would recommend that you put a circuit breaker in between your mind and your fingers. Just something to create a delay between a thought popping into your mind and you tapping it out on your keyboard!
I'm going to move this thread to the general section so that the abuse your rashness has attracted can be contained off the main forum.
Talking of which, have you spotted the easy xenophobic style and self professed superior intelligence that is able to question the mental capacity of all other posters knocking around on this thread? Now there is a contributor who you can really have a good time producing idiotic stats with. Just don't do it on the main board. ;D

This is pretty desperate stuff from the fella who wanted Boskamp to carry on as manager even if he relegated us to the old third division.
We have played more home games than away games but our away form is hardly poor so whilst you would prefer to be playing at home than away, I don't see the forthcoming away games as major obstacles as long as we carry on playing as we are.
What I meant with the Boskamp season was that we had a crazy pattern of results with very few draws and led us to being in a false position in the December. The home record was an embarrassment and while we did win ten away games, we actually lost eleven. I hope we can beat the 32 away points gained that year this season.
The bitterness of the hardcore hate squad never ceases to amaze me, and for the exiles who tell all their friends and colleagues what a twat TP is, it must be an embarrassing experience going to work on a Monday morning;
'good result for your lot again Saturday'
'err yeah but we were lucky again'
'cracking goal from that Lawrence though ?'
'err, yeah do you fancy a brew ?'

Ian I'm sorry but your quote about being in a false position in the league because of having very few draws is rubbish on a par with Bryan Robson dropping Earnshaw after scoring a hat-trick and saying there was more to football than scoring. Over the course of a season every team ends up in the position they deserve to be yet you still try and persist with the myth that every win under one manager was lucky whilst every defeat under another manager is unlucky. The whole point of this thread was that you and a few others were demanding promotion from a manager left with a threadbare squad who although he was given a higher amount of money to spend than the previous manager was still given a pretty small budget yet a manager you like comes back and is given record budgets in both years and the bar is set at happy to make the play-offs .
