Never thought I would have reason to or want to do this, but in memory of my brother-in law who passed away suddenly today at just 51......
He leaves my sister and 4 children aged 8 - 14.
Until a few years ago he was a casual Spurs fan, but didn't attend games, when his eldest son got interested in football I persuaded them to come to Stoke with me, my brother-in law was instantly hooked.
Next season he signed his whole family, including my sister, up for season tickets.
He reckoned he was our lucky mascot, as that first season was our promotion season, followed be our first FA Cup final and Europe.
If he has any influence upstairs I reckon we'll win the Europa League now.
Once a Stoke always a Stokie, RIP mate!

This is desperately sad news. All too often Christmas time brings the most devastating of times to decent families. Rest in peace, friend, even though I never knew you.

Terrible news Geoff and though there's never a good time, just before Xmas seems extra cruel somehow.
As the nationwide tributes to Gary Speed proved the world of football really is a family and it becomes extra poignant when one of our own suddenly leaves us.
Thoughts are with you and your family at this time.

Geoff: such terrible news for your whole family. His wife and kids must be devastated. I know a little of what they are going through: my dad died suddenly of a heart attack at 51 too - I was the eldest of 6 children at 18. Although it happened many years ago now, your post brought back so many memories. You and your family are in my thoughts today - and I do hope you get through the difficult next few weeks. All best wishes
