At old trafford. The roar from the stokies in the 53k+ crowd when greenhoff scores is fantastic. Who was there?

Clearly there were Stokies in the Stretford paddock which was joined to the main Stretford end on the corner given greenhoffs celebrations- a brave place to stand in them days- also when Best scores at the scoreboard end there are clearly loads of Stokies in there- the one clapping was in the stretford proper- a loon who was probably never seen again. By the way- that Manc/Vale tosser who comes on here saying Stoke never took a crowd to the the Theatre of Shit should watch this video closely as this was the peak of their Hoolie reputation

We had 10,000+ at a guess - an all ticket match, and we would have had the required proportion. Virtually the whole of the Scoreboard End is Stoke, as you can see when Best scores. However, Man Utd was indeed not a pleasant place to go to in those days, so my recollection is that there was not a "mob" as such. In fact Man Utd almost certainly did have a splinter "mob" in the Scoreboard - a practice that became commonplace in later years at many grounds, including SCFC. This was the first time I had ever heard the YGTGYFHKI chant - and the Stretford were belting it out fully 45 mins before kick off. Although it's only a brief clip, the quality and speed of play is again remarkable. Great video - thanks.

I was in the Scoreboard End with my Dad and Brother In law and remember Best and Charlton had a good game, but we actually deserved at least a draw and possibly deserved to win. We played some good stuff in those days. I wnet to the replay and stood on the old Stoke End. That was an awesome match too. Cheers Roots for that

Great seeing that video Roots, cheers for that. Yes I was there on the scoreboard end, couldn't guess at how many we'd taken though. I'd also forgotten that epic CITY...CITY....CITY chant that the boys were belting out just before we scored Pity we couldn't get that going again?

Much obliged to you for that, Roots. I was in the paddock of the main stand on that day. I was a student at Manchester University, so it was a "home" game for me. The replay was even better. Happy days! Fancy a Stoke player hitting a 40-yard diagonal pass to a teammate's feet. What are the chances of that happening these days? Etherington, Pennant and Whelan could learn a lot from Eastham's execution of the free-kick.

That City,City,City chant used to be awesome, it just used to build with everyone joining in, , last time I heard it sung properly was at the last game at the Vic v the baggies. Also feel the Hey Jude version should come back, people say we need a better song repertoire maybe the answer lies within the past

I was there remember being in the paddock at the opposite end to where Best scored, the replay at Stoke was probably the biggest crowd at the Victoria ground that I attended. Funny in those days we almost expected to win at old trafford, but teams were all more of a similar standard then even allowing for the stars that united had so shows what great players stoke had then.

The Shit defending at the set piece would have had Alan Hansen blowing the MOTD studio apart with a bazooka!

I was there. Should have gone with a mate who had to pull out at the last minute so (only 13 at the time) thought I wouldn't be going until a neighbour said he'd take me. Great day out but, as has been said, the replay was better and the old Stoke end was 'bursting'. At the start of the game I was in the middle of the Stoke End and ended up down the corner by the paddock purely having been pushed, josstled and manoevered there. Didn't mind at all though - fantastic.

Yeh massive roar but when they pan across the crowd at 44 seconds there's one person clapping! ;D Probably me! Some poster says it is a "loon" so it is definitely me! Me and my now 83 year old dad were in The Stretford End. Had to get a train to Old Trafford and a BR staff member in Manchester sent us on the wrong train! Anyhow, we eventually got to the ground. Man Utd scored first but Jimmy got the equaliser. I remember it coming from a cross from the left but I thought it was from a corner not free kick! A Man Utd fan behind me and dad asked who had scored and in a split second I said, 'Jimmy Greenhoff"! The Man Utd fan realised instantly I was a stokie!
