Now the dust has settled a bit can anyone genuinely see a partnership of Jones and Crouch working?
Not for me! Key phrases are surely; no pace, limited movement, no creativity and predictable.
The best partnerships are surely going to involve pairing them off with either Walters or Jerome. One pair starts the other pair to bring on. It's going to be trial and error to see who works best with whom.
The question is of course will involve finding out if Tone has the balls to start games with either of his most expensive signings on the bench?
It's a great position to be in if we use it right. I just shudder at the memory of the Jones and Carew partnership that could be a forerunner if what Jones with Crouch would look like.
Tone never accepted that was bollox and we were only saved from it by Carew getting injured. I hope he has privately seen the problem the rest of us saw.
p.s. Anyone mentioning "mama roles" as a solution gets burned at the stake!

crouch is much better with his feet though... And far less mobile than Carew. I really can't see a Crouch/Jones partnership working. I hope it does because TP will try it.

Yeah I'm sure centre-backs throughout the league will be delighted to see Crouch and Jones line up against them!!!

Spot on Mark. Jones and Carew played together at Fulham last season and it was beyond bad. I just looked back at the match stats since this game still haunts me - 32% posession and 1 shot on target.

True.....but then as the long throw has proved knowing what's coming doesn't mean you will be able to deal with it. Just ask Arsene!!

Pulis will start with KWJ and Walters v Liverpool......only Palacios will start the game as he tends to stay loyal ( ish ) to his regulars.

I'd be surprised to see them as a pair given Tone's preference for one of his front-men to put a shift in (and effectively become a fifth midfielder.)
Jerome can't really do the "midfield" role in the way JW can but he will work the channels and add pace up top.
I suspect we will see an either/or situation of Crouch/Jones with Walters/Jerome depending on the opposition.
With Ric (and to an extent) Mama waiting in the wings we now have plenty of options.

Definitely Crouch and Jones to start,it's a Pulis wankfest.Jerome doing the impact sub role, thou what impact he will have is debatable and Walters on the wing if Pennant or Ethers aren't 100% For the poster who said Crouch is less mobile than Carew......unbelievable,Carew had the turning circle of an ocean liner

What shouldn't be underestimated is Crouch's movement off the ball. He's caused us (and many more teams) a lot of problems by peeling off to the back post. You know he's going to do it, but it drags the biggest centre half out with him every time in an attempt to prevent him winning the knock down header. Thing is, if the other man in the box is Jones, who the fuck do you mark?
With Ethers and JP on their game, and a bit more movement, they should be able to pick out either of the big men.
That said, the same knock down would work a treat to a bursting forward of Walters or Jerome (unfortunately we still don't have the required bursting midfielder).

Only as a last minute resort looking for an equaliser with 3 up top.
Crouch and Jones would just look plain silly together as well :-)

For the poster who said Crouch is less mobile than Carew......unbelievable,Carew had the turning circle of an ocean liner It wasn't me who said it but I suspect he is not far wrong. Spurs fans reckon you could read the program notes while Crouchy gathered the ball and worked out what to do next. If all our strikers were fit and I had to pick 2 I would opt for Kenwyne and Ric.

While it could work, it's highly dependent on whether we can get them a decent supply. Having a quicker player in there gives us some variety and allows us more avenues of attack, which is highly useful if we're not, for example, having lots of penetration on the wings. If lots of crosses are coming in and such, then a Crouch-Jones partnership would force the opponents to have to choose between committing multiple players to our wing players or our front two, since on the one hand they would have to stem the crosses, and on the other hand any shorter defensive lineups could have trouble if they left only one person on both Crouch and Jones, especially given that Crouch is probably going to be working on his heading in training. It's really a partnership more designed for exploiting weaknesses than for regular play, although when it is appropriate it could be very effective.
I could be proven wrong on this, of course, since at this point it's just conjecture, and we haven't really seen how these two work together. I do get the feeling that it might not be long until we do, though. In fact, maybe we'll see it against some sides in Europe. I've heard that sides like Maccabi may have some trouble with set pieces and the more physical aspects of the game, and if that is in fact the case (and I'm sure that Pulis and the lot will be doing a lot more research into their squad than I have) a Crouch-Jones partnership may be worth bringing into play at some point, especially if it's something which they're not used to playing against. Another question, though, is whether it would be more effective as an offensive or defensive strategy; I can imagine that, if we're ahead, a Crouch-Jones partnership may well be very effective on the counter-attack, and will certainly be able to keep the opponent honest, although as a starting strategy it seems that it may lack penetration. It could generally be more worthwhile to start off with a big-quick combination as a way to scout out the opposition, and only to bring on the Crouch-Jones partnership if it looks like we're getting enough penetration elsewhere for it to be effective.
It's not his fault. The press always tells him that he's coming to play a football match at the Brit, and then he arrives and finds out that it's actually a rugby match. He is, in fact, unprepared, but that's because he was preparing for the wrong game.
To accentuate this point, Stoke don't even respect the rule which dictates that one must only pass backwards, and rather kick the ball forwards at every opportunity without constant back-passes in the middle of the pitch, hence clearly demonstrating themselves to be a rugby team rather than a football team.

Inevitably at some point Jones-Crouch will be the partnership for a run of games and we'll all go mad at how one-dimensional we are.
Has to be better than Jones-Carew though.
When Jones-Carew played together we were awful - but were we playing with two wingers at that point? If not that might have helped make the partnership worse.
