This could be the greatest European trip that any club has experienced.
I can't wait to drink beer and meet our new friends in the Ukraine. Who'd have thunk it when we were sunning ourselves at the likes of Wycombe and Cambridge only 10 years ago!
Happiest of happy days.
We fly from Heathrow on the 7am flight. For those on that, see you there!

Midday on Wednesday 14th I think is the arrival time! I am really looking forward to this one. Croatia and Switzerland were great but I have always wanted to go to Russia. Ukraine is still Russia in my book! Sorry Den! Studied Russian history at school and am really excited about this trip.

Folks, I've added some maps that will hopefully help you in Kyiv. Bare in mind most signs are in Ukrainian and so that map you bought here in English is bob all use -sorry. s138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/stokecity4/Kiev%20Help/At the airport there's load of "helpful" chaps trying to get you into their taxi. Cheap buses are outside though just go outside and head slightly leftwards. There are two types Go for the larger one - it's a bit more comfy. Good travels Spider

I wanted to play it indoor (I ve got a free gym in a school). But since we want to play it at 12 am - the SCHOOL gym is not an option - still lessons-time! SO - I d like to play it outdoor. Can t give you an exact adress now (we think of 2-3 options), but it should be not far from underground station "Печерська" (Pecherska) OR close to Prorizna Str.

I won't be able to join you in the football, we arrive too late.... which is probably just as well as my footy days are at least 10 years in the past!!! ;D But maybe say 3pm onwards we could all arrange somewhere to meet near by or in the city Den? Is Sushiya a good place to meet, is it in the centre. Somewhere the other Stokies can find us and we can get together? Oh and thank you Den and everyone else who has posted helpful information on here. It is fantastic that you have done this, and I for one really appreciate it. I'm sure all this will help make it a fab trip...... hopefully combined with the right result! Now if only I can stop scousestokie1 taking his ruddy shirt off again.... its not a sight I want to travel 4000 miles to see!!!!!! ;D

Sushiya (Сушия) - is the chain of restaurants (about 15 in Kyiv). My advice for a meeting-place - Sushiya at вул. Велика Житомирська, 6/11 (Velika Zhitomirska Str., 6/11). I think this Sushiya is a nice option, because it s in the centre, but not in the very centre. & it s not connected with football. Just a place to relax, drink some beer & eat sthg. BTW, Rob, it s just in about 200 m from your hotel! And since we d like to meet at 3pm (5 hours till the game!), there could be time to move later to other - more "football-oriented" place (some pub!). What do you think? Or you d prefer to go to the pub at once? Than - let s change destination.

No offence intended Den, I promise. Really looking forward to a trip to Ukraine as I have a real and genuine interest in the history of Russia and the new countries which used to make up the USSR. Eastern Europe here we come! Roll on Wednesday morning. Not sure I can play football though. My body only just withstands a round of golf these days! I will happily drink beer with my 4 comrades though, some of who may wish to play!

Den...do you have a definite location and time for the football yet? Sushiya at 3pm sounds good!

Hopefully will have everything confirmed & arranged tomorrow, for the location of the match. Maybe might be an idea to get everyone to meet up at the Lybid hotel, before we head off on a tour & playing footy? I know theres a fair few Stokies staying at that hotel...

I did a quick internet search and came up with a few bars that may be worthy of attention. I have no idea what they are like in real life. For me I would rather drink in the local Ukrainian bars than the standard Irish bar but that's just me. The bars below all seem to have something to offer. We are staying at the junction of B.Khmelnyts'koho/ Khreschatyk about 100m from Metro Teatralna so maybe I am a bit biased as most of these are in/around that area. However, this area does seem to be the place to be. All of the bars below with the exception of the last two are in this area and they are all easy to get to (I think). Perhaps the Kyiv locals can advise. We arrive on Wednesday evening so would be looking for a decent sized bar where we can watch Champions League footy. A place with a bit of atmosphere but not so small that you can't move. Looking at the bars below I think Lucky may well fit the bill but Planeta Sport & Arena Citi look ok too . Some feedback from the Kyiv locals would be greatly appreciated. Bochka (Keg) B.Khmelnyts'koho 3B-1 Bochka is a no nonsense pub perfectly located for starting or wrapping up your bar-hopping adventure. Top local rock, pop and hip-hop acts perform Tuesday-Sunday. Cover charge varies on the notoriety of the band, but is more or less reasonable. For a taste of Kyiv that’s sure to make its way into the memory bank, try Bochka’s house brew available in dark, light and live. The interior is massive by local standards, so even on packed nights it’s possible to find some elbow room. Local and Euro cuisine is on hand. The price on menu items is a touch steep for a pub, but the breakfast and lunch specials are value and flavour packed. Naturlih B.Khmelnyts'koho 3 Laid back atmosphere. Huge selection of beers. OK for conversation. Lucky Chervonoarmiys'ka 13 Good atmosphere. Good for Sports fans. This is arguably the finest sports viewing venue in the city. We went on the night of a critical World Cup qualifying match and the place was booked solid. Eleven LCDs are strategically placed throughout the pub, 12 types of beer are on tap and the fare is familiar, delicious and reasonably priced. We joined a group of rowdy Brits in the football room and had a splendid time. Live music goes from 21:00 - 01:00 Thursday - Saturday. The map below includes adult entertainment as well as pubs/bars maps.inyourpocket.com/#23/105/209/58816,56234 Baraban Prorizna 4, Kiev Cosy little hard-to-find place just off Khreshatyk (hint: in the backyard), very popular among expats. Drinks and food at more than reasonable prices. Arena Citi Basseyna 2A, Kiev The sports bar is located on the first floor of the complex, in summer there is a big screen installed outside opposite the terrace. Planeta Sport B. Khmelnytskovo 3, Kiev Screens along the rooms and all major sports events shown. Book a table if there is an interesting match, this place gets packed. O'Briens Mikhaylyvska 17a, Kiev, 279 1584 Popular place for expats to hang out and watch all sports matches. Sunduk Mikhailivska 16, Kiev A pleasant bar about 5 minutes walk from Maydan Nezalezhnosti. A wide variety of dishes for reasonable prices, good selection of beer and drinks.
