Stoke have drawn Blackburn Rovers or Coventry City away in the FA Youth Cup Fifth round.
Ties will be played at 7pm on Saturday February 11th apparently, bit of an unusual time!

Coventry are currently top of their league, but they do play their full quota of over-age players in league games

samwhitehurst93 sam whitehurst Lost all love for football at stoke so going to find some love again Is that 7 or 8 players that have walked now? That doesn't sound good! Unfortunately, if true, a reflection on what many of the keener observers on here have been saying for some time (not months but years). Noel Blake and Gordon Bennett, when putting the Academy on track with so little budget (crappy changing rooms at the Michelin, dog shit on the pitches) recognised the problem looming but the lads were fully committed. The change of first team manager saw the exit of many capable coaches. Things bumbled along for a while. Then Steve Holland saw the issues and tried to make changes before changing direction with Chelsea. Things have to change to attract quality to the Academy and turn round to a proper return on investment.

It could be but he never got a look in so it could be just down to that and presumably he didn't get a look in because he's not good enough.

I read somewhere that in the summer we are going to be investing more money into our academy's facilities.

well hopefully they can bring in some more coaches to help with youth development and someone dedicated to be a liason between the first team and the acadamy someone TP has trust in. we need these kids coming through to at the very least bulk out our squad in times of need and the more we can attract we might find a silver nugget out there who can step up to first team bench
*id of said Golden nuggert but who am i kidding

If this investment happens will it be to get the top academy status? I swear I read in an interview with Coates in the Sentinel or something that that is his goal.

if we do get this top academy status what does that bring to the club? other than looking slightly better when attracting young talent

if we do get this top academy status what does that bring to the club? other than looking slightly better when attracting young talent The top academy status would require a huge investment in the academy (approx £3 million a year). From this you are entailed to sign players from a younger age than those academies with a lower classification, the kids all go to the same school so that they receive alot more coaching time in conjunction with their learning, and the compensation system is weighted in your favour. I believe that there are about 24 clubs going for category one status

When I spoke to them they reckoned that Coates saw the academy as the future of the club, and wanted us to start producing our own talent rather than splashing millions of pounds on players. Where would the money go and what would it achieve? I don't know.

Which of the second/third year's scholars do we think may get the offer of a professional contract? Quite a few and it will also include extensions for the youngerr pros on the books. They are running a u21 team nexct season which will provide Adrian Pennock a job as well as playing lip service to the Chairman's wishes.

Well the manager has gone on record now (Barclay's Premier World) that the way forward for Stoke is to bring through their own young talent. So it remains to be seen?
5 year plan anyone

I would hope that Coates and TP have some sort of long-term plan to make the club self sufficient!

He hasn't played once for the reserves I don't think mate. He's played out on the wing in a 433 so doesnt get on the scoresheet much, but he did get an England U18 call up which was surprising. He got an assists in the game today for England
