I like many others on here recall him as a childhood hero. He'll always be remembered as part of Durban's promotion winning team. Him and Dennis Smith were indeed a formidable partnership.
What I didn't know was that he had an intense dislike of Man Utd, and wasn't backward in letting it be known! If that doesn't make him a legend I don't know what will!
Condolences to his family & friends. Rest in Peace big man.

Signed from Man City August 1978 for £50,000, played 128 games and scored 6 goals for the Potters before being sold to Bolton in January 1982 for £2,000. Great professional...R.I.P Mike.

R.I.P Mr Doyle. always liked to watch him play and always gave it 150%. all of our thoughts are with mike and his family at this sad time. was he at wembley when we both met for FA cup final...? the demon drink kills another sporting great, what a waste. stokies and man city fans once again joined in a common cause.

Sorry it was such a lousy way to go, just hope he was sufficiently out of it not to feel too much pain.

Very little to add that hasn't already been said. He was a great signing for Stoke at the time and a real signal we were going all out for promotion. He formed a very good partnership with Smithy and was the ideal replacement for Alan Bloor. Moreover he was a man of principal, as others have said, he was definitely very much of the blue half of Manchester and hated Manure - didn't he get in trouble with the FA once for saying so!
RIP Mike, and condolences to his family and friends.

I remember when we bought him and thinking he was here for a last pay day. I couldn't have been more wrong, he was one of the most committed player to wear a Stoke shirt. Very quickly won me over and turned out to be a brilliant signing.

He "still had it" even when he came to Stoke. A shrewd bit of business by Durban. RIP Mike Doyle. This. Ace for us. Sadly missed.
