Ya can't really argue with the facts though can you johnny?
OFAH went for a long time (I can't quite recall how many series, I'm sure someone will know?) whereas Partridge went for 2 series. To be honest I think a 3rd series of Partridge would of died on it's arse. That's not to say I don't like Partridge but you can definatley see the drop in quality from the 1st series to the 2nd. OFAH churned out several series of good quality comedy, each series being as good as the last.

only fools and horses is quality but they did do too many christmas specials they should have quit whilst they were ahead the older ones are the best though

They should have left it as it was and ended it after Christmas specials of 1996. Those episodes were weak in themselves
The ones since then have been average to be polite. I'm possibly the only person who didn't spontaneously combust with laughter when Rodney wore that gladiator outfit.
I have to say though that through the years its provided many great comedy moments.

Joe. I can say that you weren't the only one who didn't break into tears when Rodney wore the gladiator garb.
It did outstay it's welcome. I cannot even remember laughing once during the final episode. All I can remember was a vague feeling of disappointment at the hour I lost.
Good during it's heyday. I'm sure the cast only did it for the money. They already had given the show a proper send off 7 years ago.
It's not as if Nicholas Lyndhurst is getting any other job offers at present.

The phase "quit whilst you're ahead" springs instantly to mind here. Fawlty Towers no matter how many times I view any of the 12 episodes (and beleive me it's a fair few) still make me laugh. Another Northern chap who makes the whole of my family laugh so much we have to pause and re-wind 'VD' player is Peter (aka danny..private joke) Kaye. The 'Bolton Halls' video/DVD is trully recommended.
Hxx
ps yes have to agree OFAH has passed it's sell by date, however pre 1998 episodes are classic

Yes and their greatness is being tarnished now by the poor standard of the most recent ones.

Only Fools was at it's peak around 1988/89/90.
Episodes like Dates, The Jolly Boys Outing, Chain Gang and Stage Fright and true comedy classics.
It's just so sad that it ended the way it did.

Yes Dave. Thats one reason why its good that there won't be any more episodes of The Office.

It seems everyone feels the same. Whilst it is (IMO) the greatest show to ever hit the screens and I'll always watch any of the new ones, it should have ended after the '96 trilogy.
With Del Boy being Del Boy is was almost too easy to write the bankruptcy storylines and it reflected in the shows.

Another show to acquire that 'never to be made again' mantle and treasured all the more - Father Ted.
Superb.

Steptoe & Son for me! Absolute quality every single episode and both films!!!
Also Fawlty Towers is a class apart!

Steptoe was quality-and agree with HellsBells-I can watch Fawlty Towers over and over and laugh again as it quit whilst it was ahead-mind saying how I tend to over rate OFAH I can't knock the fact that it had come up with so many episodes-thats the good thing of it-you only see the same episode broadcasted eevry once in a while ;D

Caught the re-run o' Father Ted t'other night... I must've seen some of these episodes about a dozen times and I still chuckle like it's the first time I've ever seen 'em... Pure CLASS!!! Oh aye...an' Only Fools...rather bizarrely, I've only 'got into' it in these last 2 years actually! Even though I religiously watched it wi' my Bruv when I was a kiddy... It's just "tired" now...
