Right, I need your help all you experienced, knowledgable M/B users (that doesn't include you JR ) Me and me mate are hoping to go to Australia this summer (their winter ) to meet up with an ex-aquitance of mine. We'll be looking to land at Melbourne. Now I have never flown and don't know where to start when organising flights so I was wondering if you kind people (yet again, that doesn't include you JR ) could give some advice. Any help much appreciated

www.opodo.co.uk is a good place to start, for some reason Melbourne tends to be more expensive to fly to though (compared to other aussie cities) try www.expedia.co.uk too. In a JR stylee ...ahem..having lived in Melbourne for a spell, I have to say the winter there is pretty grim and cold, so make sure you leave some time to travel elsewhere if you want to come back with a tan. Excellent city though.

That sounds a bit pricey, I'd have thought you could get one nearer the £600 mark. Try www.britishairways.co.uk , they're sometimes just as cheap as all the alledged "cheap flights" sites.

Tried British Airways, the cheapest there is about £850-£900. I'm getting excited just TRYING to organise it. Don't think I'll be too excited when I have to pay for it though . Cheers for the advice mate. If you have any other flashes of inspiration just drop a PM to me. And again, thanks very much

Despite being emotionally scarred by the comments above I always (well 90%) use Airline Network. Very rarely come across much cheaper £550 in August if flying out of London. www.airline-network.co.uk/Dont know why I'm telling you this but still RRP...I notice your profile says Male,17 Stone. You might want to think about upgrading to a bigger seat.

I knew someone would pick up on the "17 Stone" sooner or later. It had to be you didn't it didn't it Dave, I'm looking to depart round about late july early August Cheers for the help anyway guys (again except you JR ) Ok, then JR I take it back, I am eternally gratful for your help and wisdom. How did you get £550? The cheapest I've got from that website is £700!!!! I don't think the airlines like me

You try and be helpful Depends on what date you go....stagger your flight in August and try several different dates out...later the better. You land on some far better prices. Recently got a £200 difference on a Bangkok flight by just being flexible wth the dates. Late July an expensive time to go.....I got £550 in August but most come up at £700 odd.

If all else fails ring Garuda airlines up and see what their reps come up with. They can be quite cheap, if you dont mind a 40h+ journey with a fair chance of death along the way ;D

Garuda ;D If you want to get there for August set off now They are cheap and you can have a Bali stop over which isn't too shabby. Do have a tendency to over sell planes and was once left stranded in Jakarta thanks to them.

For cheap flights to Stuttgart, try www.duo.com for flights from Birmingham, and www.lufthansa.com for flights from Heathrow. Both around 100 quid mark, which has to be a winner. ;D

If there was a beutiful blonde girl waiting for me in Stuttgart I would take you up on that offer. Alas there's not, hence why I'm going to Australia ;D ;D

May as well jump in at the deep end (not litterally, as there'd be no water left, what with me being 17 Stone ;D) I also know someone out there as well and I'm hoping (fingers crossed) she will give me free accomadation (don't know if there's room though, what with me being 17 Stone )
