Is MTV2 fucked? I don't watch it much (unless you have a Foo Fighters fixation, there doesn't seem much point) but I occasionally come across something cool on there like Interpol or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs or something. Mine's gone dead recently though. I thought it was the weather last week, but obviously not Has it moved or gone PPV or what?

Interpol...fantastic. I do miss satellite TV, but everytime I visit my parents I always manage to get the music channels on for a bit.
MTV2 went shite a while ago when it started churning out vile "nu-metal" for 24 hours a day. "The Amp" isn't too bad if you can put up with the odd few, equally horrid and vile, "Britpop by numbers" videos that occasionally pollute the screen.

I used to watch a lot of the Amp but it seems to have gone downhill lately? Maybe its just the times I'm watching.
VH2 is pretty nice
Q used to be ok when it was more rocky, as opposed to the R&B / pop they have on there now
Kerrang is ok for a good song once a day / week
MTV2 isn't too bad, a little to grungy for my liking though most of the time

Any channel that recognises Damien Rice for the hugely gifted singer/songwriter that he is must be good. VH2 does that so I am happy ;D ;D

He seems a bit...how shall I put this...boring (ah yes, thats the one) to me.

Pricey,
Not sure why you think he's boring. OK, he's not jumping around, screaming and chucking guitars everyhwere. But his music is more about HIS emotions than jumping around trying to entertain everyone. Dunno if you've heard his album but it is incredible. For me, THE album of the year if not the past decade.

i agree that damien rice seems a little boring, i have since bought his album and it is awesome. i think people make judgements before really listening to albums. as for interpol, i have the album (on recommendation from a mate), i have seen em live twice and my opinion is that they are piss poor. i just feel really bored when i listen to em, no real emotion, just some dicks trying to act cool. and i am basing this opinion on listning to there album, a number of times and seeing them live twice, NOT seeing the last 30 secs of a video

broadack...fair enough...if you've listened to them and they don't butter yer tayters then I shall respect your opinion...even though it's very wrong. I'm not that convinced about Damian Rice. My girlfriend has the album and it's Ok, nice enough songs but to me they're only a glossy piece of production away from being Westlife ballads. The introspective singer/songwriter thing is done better elsewhere IMO...check out "Just like Blood" by Tom McRae or anything by Nick Drake.

are you a fan of jeff buckley trouserdog??
my advice would be to have a good listen to damien rice. it really is a great album.
if that still does not float you boat, perhaps turin brakes (the optimist is a fantastic album), mull historical society have made a couple of cracking albums or even if you want something a little 'rockier' try cooper temple clause or the brilliant british sea power.

Yeah, "Grace" is a fantastic album, and it is one of my "missing" albums...I lost a shitload of tapes somewhere at my Mum's house and I have NO idea where they could be (I suspect my Mum chucked em out a while ago! ) I am still trying to replace them one-by-one on CD as tapes are just too likely to vanish! Not a fan of turin Brakes particularly, "The Optimist" is a pleasant enough listen but can't get too excited about them personally. Good shout for MHS,CTC and BSP though.

When I said I thought Damien Rice was a little boring I didn't mean I would never make an effort to listen to his songs or even buy his album. I've even considered buying it a few times but one look at the front of the CD puts me off (another link to the boring idea). Also seen a few adverts for his album, and again, boring is the thing that springs to mind.
And don't slag off Interpol it's not nice! ;D

I try & tune into MTV2 when I get the chance - its good, but has a "NME attitude" - i.e they only play what is "in" at the moment, especially as indie has been made "cool" again by the likes of the Strokes & White Stripes. There are lots of other good bands out there, who dont have mullet hairdo's & wear blazers over their t-shirts. It seens they are catering more for the younger generations' tastes, but thats ok I suppose - at least they have their finger on the pulse. Some quality "old-school indie" wouldnt go amiss - Pixies, Moz, etc. Best tune on at the mo - The Von Bondies "C'mon, C'mon" The Amp is a bit more diverse, but I switched it on the other day, to see a special show with the Stereophonics ! Almost puked! I expect the Franz Ferdinand album to go number 1 this week - anybody rushing out to buy it? I am off to see Death Cab For Cutie & American Analog System tonight at Manchester Uni - cant wait!

i am going to buy the franz ferdinand album 2moz
as for the stereophnics, a prime example of a talented young british band who decided that £££ was more important that actually producing something that someone respects you for. what the hell are they doing. i mean 1st album was class, 2nd very good, 3rd oh oh here we go, 4th fucking woeful.
slow ballads my arse, i mean don't get me wrong i like the occational slow song to fill and album from a 'rockier' band to make the experience of listening to the album a little more diverse but NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
really annoys me that, pissed on my chips big time.
and by the way pricey, i take it you go to staffs uni, if so what are you studying??

I'm at Loughborough, Communication and Media Studies. Staffs was my back up if I wouldn't have got the grades for Loughborough, would have been doing Film, Radio and Television Studies.
And I agree with the Stereophonics. There are 2-3 songs on each of the 3rd and 4th albums that are still decent, but they have sold out, simple as that. If you download music, get Royal Flush, a b-side to Madame Helga. It shows they can still make a really good tune, even if they aren't prepared to put it on their album.

MTV2 has gone right toss-used to be pretty good but don't go out of me way watch it now-as someone said its all Foo Fighters-I think its more all Dave Ghrol(foo's, Nirvana, that Tenacious D which he appeared in) just like VH1 is all Robbie "the greatest male ever" Williams and Kylie "the queen of everything" Minogue, I always watch the amp full of Stone Roses ,Oasis and Suede ;D got me into other things like the Cult as well and the undertones Vh2's pretty good-I like that Damien Rice song Cannonball-top tune, also the Smiths and the Cure are on there often ;D VH1classics good as well-especially the classic rock at night

Just to add a quick note to the debate, Damien Rice is without doubt a hugely talented bloke. For a first album'O' is magnificent. It gets better every time, perhaps peaking at about the 12th listen. Each to their own, but if you think he's 'boring' on the basis of the odd song or video then you're not doing him justice. IMHO he really is 'top drawer'. If you get the chance to check out the album you could be pleasantly surprised.

saw the Stereophonics not that long ago in Birmingham, they were suprisingly good, despite the recent wank album they produced.
saw Damien Rice last year as well, definately a very talented guy, not particularly my cup of tea; bit slow for my liking, but some of his songs were ok.
