How long have the Brit Awards been going? Ages I suspect - probably the best part of two decades at least.
So how come it's taken until 2004 to acknowledge there is life - not to mention [glow=green, glow width,1 characters wide]money[/glow] - outside of the mainstream bubblegum pop that the British Phonographic Industry shoves at us year-in year-out?!
Only now do we have a Best UK Rock Act nomination category. It's not like some record companies aren't more than a little reliant on Rock bands' back catalogue are they?

What are bands up for that? I half-saw an advert on Kerrang yesterday as their viewers are voting for the winner.
Muse Stereophonics Darkness
Who else?

i agree. the music industry at the moment is totally f*cked. Marketed mainly at the 10-15 year old market, endless ranks of identi-kit pop bands are consistently being churned out. The charts are bollocks.should be forgotten. WE dont need them to tell us what good music is. I dont care how many pre-teen girls brought westlifes latest coverversion"!!!!! There are hundreds of brilliant british bands producing REAl music out there. They just never get a chance to be heard because the record execs that dominate music don't see them as commercially viable. Hard working british bands have to pack it in year after year because they just don't earn enough to get by. GODAMN YOU BUSTED!! *sigh* rant over, as u can tell this has been building up inside me for sumtime.

Good to see Damien Rice has been nominated (best Interenational male I think ???). Justin Trousersnake or any other teeny-bopper aren't fit to wipe this guys arse, he is a true musical genious

Staffs Stokie,
Who could seriously disagree with anything you've just said!? It breaks my heart too!
On thing that really bugs me too... have you ever noticed how the blokes in these 'boy bands' are never over 5' 6" tall? Surely not a cynical marketing ploy to keep 12 year old girls interested in them?
All a load of crap!

The 'Best UK Rock Act' category has been engineered entirely to give The Darkness an award I suspect everyone everyone championing their cause will feel somewhat embarrassed in a year or so.

I like The Darkness. Well, I played their album a lot and went to see them at Keele and had a great time.
It's just pop music. It's inherently daft and ephemeral. Why would anyone feel embarrassed about it?
