I count myself as.... (if need be)... working class...
Got 4 kids eldest just ducked out having got two B's a C and a D
17yr old daughter will not do the same and will go to uni. What is scarey and I mean SCAREY is that now she is going to cost us more.. not that I begrudge the expense, but I do find myself agreeing with Blarrrr...
who wants the Uni's to go private and thus 'elliteist' Not me! We all accept that we have to dig deep into our personal pockets as parents to fund our children's future....this has always been so.
The majority of Oxbridge students come from the private fee paying schools...this has always been so.
For my daughter I want her to feel part of the Uni life...to eat pasta, drink loads of beer and come out with a first hons....
after all it's she who will be feeding me my 'soup' once earning big.
Hxx
ps. Kids today fully take on board they are going to be in debt...and speaking for mine they will deal with it....wether that is right or not it's fact.

^ well said. given the opportunity i'd go back and do it all over again. i certainly begrudge the debts i've got but not the time i spent at uni. it is a fantastic time and i recommend it to almost anyone. that said your right when you say kids these days just accept that its not free/cheap anymore. most graduates do eventually earn a decent wage and will be able to pay it off.
whether its fair to begin with is another matter. 8.5k is a lot of money - 20k now thats insane.
Wiget.
