148 years in the waiting and our moment has finally arrived.
An FA Cup final is something that has eluded our great club for its entire history but that is something this current crop of players and management has laid to rest. Stoke City Football Club has reached an FA Cup Final, and we’re not finished just yet.
With one final hurdle in the way, I firmly believe this is the Season we put our stamp and leave our mark in the history books. The older generation often speak fondly about ’72 and the heroes of yesteryear, come Saturday May 14th 2011, a new generation of players has the opportunity to go one better and win the most prestigious domestic Cup in the Country, probably the entire world.
When the chosen 11 take to the Wembley pitch wearing the famous red and white stripes, 25,000+ Stokies will bellow out the infamous roar that only we Stokies can do and provide that crucial 12th man once again. The wall of sound will echo around the ground as we prove once again, we are the most passionate and vocal fans in the land.
I truly believe this IS our year. On the biggest of all stages tears will be shed as renditions of Abide with Me and the National Anthem reverberate throughout the ground, tears of joy, tears for those who are no longer with us but there in sprit; but most importantly, tears of pride for our beloved Football Club.
Tony Pulis and this group of players deserve massive credit for what they have achieved thus far and how great would it be to send out a message to the rest that have written us off, and continually criticised us, that we mean Business. We sent out a warning in the Semi and the time is now to hammer home that message; “We’re Stoke City, we’ll play how we want”. Whether it be a mazy run by Pennant or a throw in from Delap, this final is ours for the taking and on the day, the team spirit that is clear to see throughout the squad could be the difference.
At how many other teams would you see players not involved, for whatever reason, still want to be there for their team mates and offer words of encouragement? Some questioned Fuller’s commitment to the cause when he picked up his injury but he was there in the Semi to deliver a speech to the rest of the troops. Then there’s Nash who was merely brought in as back up to Begovic and Sorensen but again, he’s there to offer words of support to the rest. This squad really is a close knit family and if we do it in the Final it won’t just be a victory for the chosen 11, it will be a victory for Fuller, for Higgy and for every other player that has the misfortune of not making the pitch for whatever reason.
Once they step across that white line they stop being individuals and become a team. They give 100% from start to finish and more importantly, they fight for one another, united as one. You only need ask Stephen Hunt what kind of response you get when you try to ruffle the Stoke City feathers. The fighting spirit will be enough to drag us over the line for one final push, that I truly believe.
Man City might be the richest club in the world but you can’t buy the togetherness, courage, strength and will that Tony Pulis has instilled into this set of players. Mancini would cough up millions to have half the heart that we have at our club. We may be the Underdogs on Cup Final Day but sometimes, just sometimes, the Underdog upsets the odds.
May 14th 2011 - This IS our moment, this is OUR time.
Be Loyal, Be Proud, Be Stoke

People keep saying it's a 148 year wait but the first FA Cup wasn't until 1872. You can't have a chance of winning it before it even existed.
