Sadly Warrant Officer Adrian Cheshire has passed away after battling illness for the last few months. Season ticket holder, devoted fan, gentle giant, true gentleman and a great great friend, he will be sorely missed. I will be raising one for him at the Bolton game, we will give the potters a roar for you Big Ade

A true gentleman & one of the best I've ever had the privilege of serving with. Our thoughts are with his family.
The RAF mourns a devoted son.

So sad to hear this. As he will have done to others on here, Ade sent me regular texts and emails on his condition. He was amazingly positive about things which must have made the past few months easier to bear.
Goodbye Ade, I'll miss you, as will many many other Stokies. As Milkie says, you were a true gentleman and a gentle giant.
Milkie (or anyone close to the family) - any information on funeral arrangements/flowers/donations etc. would be appreciated - pm me if needs be.

OMG! I can't believe it! He mailed me on Xmas eve with this...
Hi Mick
Quick update - high strength chemo and stem cells put back in last week in Birmingham - now in isolation for three weeks in Shrewsbury Hospital due to white cells shot at - still very much upbeat both physically and mentally - that despite the loss at home to Blackpool :-)
Still main reason for email was to wish you, Tony and family a really happy christmas and all the very best for 2011 - see you in D's for a beer at sometime.
I'm utterly, utterly devastated, because Big Ade was one of life's gentlemen; the original gentle giant; a wonderful handshake; never bombastic; always a ready, genuine smile; and truly one of the loveliest men, if not the loveliest and friendliest person I have ever met in my life. God, me and Tone will miss him! He was always part of our matchday experience, and even when we'd lost, that big grin on his face would always ease the pain of losing.
Ade, Rest in Peace, my lovely, lovely friend. OS is shedding tears at losing you, and I know Tone will be beyond devastated.
Milkie, thank you for informing us. I'd be obliged if you would PM me with the details of Ade's funeral. Thank you.
OS.

Old Stokie, lovely words you paint this wonderful man as I remember him. Ade had. 3 families that intertwined into each other, his wonderful girls and immediate family, the RAF and of course his beloved Stoke City . The world has truelly lost a favoured friend father, fan and mentor tears a plenty tonight. i will of course pass on details once I. get them milkie

Did he sit near the front of the Boothen? Paul, I'm not sure exactly where Ade sat but he did sit in the Boothen. I'm sure you knew him at least by sight as you will have nodded to him and us when you have seen him talking to Mick (OS) me or any number of his friends usually after matches in D's. He ALWAYS wore a faded TOFFS replica Stoke shirt, 1940s style with the button collar. And he wore glasses in recent years having had retinal trouble in one eye a few years back. Writing about it has brought the tears back - as Mick says he was a lovely man - those of us who knew him are very fortunate to have done so.

RIP, Big Ade and true Stokie.
He seemed such a lovely fellow but, sadly, neither age nor character play any part in our departure. Just rank bad luck, as with too many Stokies, this past twelve months.
