This game needs it's own thread.Hopefully davef or smudge will put it on the correct board when the time is correct.Someone posted a superb pic of Richo putting it in the net,15,000 Stokies then went mental. ;D

That was a brill season and the Notts County game was and still is one of the best away days of my life. I was stood just behind the dugout where Durban was sat, so the Stoke fans were to my left.
When Durban did his now famous 89th minute 'we need to score' shout I was close enough to hear him, what a day, what a celebration.

It's funny, i live in an area of nottingham that is predominately county and when i mention that game with the enormous stoke following and promotion they don't seem to remember it ??? Such a classic memory for those stokies who were there and those listening to radios or whatever.

County and Wrexham that year were amazing with Stoke fans not able to get in at Wrexham due to the size of the following. I remember the Mansfield game because the away end was so full you could lift both feet off the ground and stay standing

Great to see those old stoke videos, even if it was over thirty years ago. Did Sammy Irvine ever play again after his car accident?

I remember Big Bren scoring a last minute header away to Sunderland in the November ( i think ) of that season Was that the one where we were in the paddock and the twats from the open end were throwing bangers down at us? The 1st game away at Canbridge where we were packed in like sardines on a blister hot August saturday afternoon, you couldn't get to the refreshement stand that was 10 yards away. It was a great season, open terraces, old grounds, and all the nostalgia that goes with it. I was behind the goal when we scored, what a mental, at the end of the game I was climbing up to the players in the stand and one of the officials pushed me back down Southern stokies had 2 special coaches on the train and were attacked on the train by Millwall fans on their way to leicester

Such a shame wasn't covered on TV. Wrexham v Sunderland was and the look on the Sunderland player's faces at the end was epic. They thought they were up. Made it sweeter after the Vic fiasco that season.

I did over 30 games home and away that season, 14 years old and taken by my dad all over. Great days. I was moved from behind the goal to the paddock to avoid the crush, had a great view when we scored...... as if it were yesterday.

I went on the train special with my cousin from Australia,he was over here for a few months, a perfect local trip just up the road and topped off by promotion, remember seeing a school mate being searched and caught with bog rolls in his pocket at the station,he got nicked but i think he saw the match.Still got the pathetic match programme was looking at it the other day hardly anything in it

Beck was their manager then wasn't he?
