I first went in 1969/70 season but can only really remember properly from 1970/71 onwards. I remembe us beating a good Leeds side 3-0 at home and we battered the eventual league winners Arsenal 5-0. I can remember real trouble in the streets of Stoke after the games against West Ham, the Shit, and Tottenham. I remember being close to tears when the bent ref cheated us out of the semi against lucky Arsenal. I remember the Texaco cup and I think a 3rd and 4th play off game for the FA cup losing semi finalists!
A team of heroes - Banks, Smith, Pejic, Greenhoff, Conroy, Bernard, Ritchie etc - yet we only ended up 13th after a poor second half of season - nothing much changes ( except we passed the ball back then...............)

1969 Edit:- and every home game,my old man insisted that we stand right in the middle of the Stoke stand....... and when Stoke were away.....he took us to the Vale..... ...does that qualify as child abuse ??

1971 - sitting on a crush barrier with my dad and a bag of sweets to keep me happy (as if the football was boring then!). These days I still need a bag of sweets, and a dose of something strong!
