As a pool fan I can tell you we are all equally outraged at the bullshit this Calvin tosser has put in the Sunday Mirror re the game on Saturday. It wasn't a report but basically a slagging off of the whole CCC. Here are the emails of both the editor and Calvin himself. I urge you all to email / flood their offices. steve.purcell@mirror.co.uk michael.calvin@mirror.co.uk Here is the article if you haven't read it www.sundaymirror.co.uk/sport/football/2008/03/23/stoke-1-1-blackpool-98487-20360350/

Bit of an epic wheeling, but since you ain't from around here we'll let you off.
Flooding isn't a bad idea. I'd have to do it manually, anybody know an easy way to send a million emails to one email address?

Yeah I read it.
As Macari put it it is "Lazy Journalism". It is the excessive money that premiership teams get that has made the lower divisions look poor.
I will be e-mailing that Michael Calvin with my views.

I can't see what the problem is, I think he is spot on with most of what he says, what he is missing though is the goal is the Premiership and if it means shit football for a season then so be it, we'll play nice football when we have the £40 Million in the bank thank you very much.

I think the report in the Mirror is harsh but true. I read the article and found myself agreeing with many of the points being made. Michael Calvin obviosly doesn't know that much though, he called the lightweight Cort "musclebound" and gave the totally ineffective Gallagher MOM (yeh right...). The problem is the beast that is the Premiership is miles ahead of the Championship (yes 2nd division in old money as the Premiership was the old 1st division), and who's to blame for that, the greedy bastards in the premiership. Until and if ever the gap lessens, then sides like Stoke, Watford, Hull and Plymouth will have to build their teams "around loan signings, hasbeens and never-will-bes" as this fuckwit puts it. There maybe the odd wannbe side like West Brazil who try to play a bit more football but still struggle in the Championship and would definately struggle should they ever step up again. On reflection Michael Calvin should get his arse back to watching the over hyped Premiership and it's "Grand slam Sunday" and watch Man Utd walk away with another title by Easter. We can enjoy a run in where at least 5 teams are in contention of the Championship title. Finally good luck to one of our Championship teams in winning the FA Cup (well as long as it's not Cardiff or West Brazil that is... ). CO

if we're honest with ourselves, the report is not far from the truth.
if anyone thinks we have played quality football this season they are seriously deluded. and if anyone thinks that we can survive playing this football in the premiership they should get medical help.
and how many decent sides have we seen this season.................????????
this division is very poor, which is a sad reflection on the game.
great that we are top, i don't blame the manager for his tactics, he has used the tools with which he is familiar and largely used them to good effect, but let's not kid ourselves about what we are watching, which is on the whole, very mediocre football.

You want horsewhipping for buying any Mirror Group publication.
Have you got short memoris or are you just stupid?
That paper faked those pictures of our troops supposedly torturing Iraqis in the back of a truck. The cuntrags at The Mirror, proving them to be as dim as their readership, used a vehicle that had never seen active service in Iraq!!!

Are match reports not supposed to contain some details of what actually happened in the match??? Other then the rating at the bottom there was no reference to the match watsoever and no mention of how the 2 goals where scored. Hes obviously a prick trying to antagonise us and get a name for himself so dont feed his poxy ego by emailing him jsut dont buy or read anything out of that rag in future

I personally don't understand the problem. Some low grade journo is trying to get a name for himself by submitting an article with a 'controversial' opinion in a low grade newspaper. Papers like the Mirror print inaccurate, poorly constructed articles every single day about any number of topics - don't worry about it, just don't buy the piece of shit paper. ;D

The guy is paid to report a football match between two teams.
Yet again we have another (R.Brand) wannabee reporter offering his vision as a critique not between two football teams ,but of two totally different entities. The Championship and the Premiership.
What was the point? The sports pages have over the years dug this 'pitch' ad nauseum. It is just another cheap shot to fill up his column inches/earn his fee.
Attempts to state the bleedin obvious really don't warrant publication ,but I suppose when one is writing for the fourth division it must be irksome to read others and their reports in premiership papers?

The thing that gets to me most is this idea that it's only Stoke who play the ball long when, in fact, the English game as a whole seems to be structured in a similar way.
If you look at the Premiership alot of teams are content with hitting the long ball in order to clear their lines and play the percentages game. Barring the 'big four' I can't say that I see much beautiful, flowing football being played. I mean, even Chelsea who are second are one of the most boring teams around at the moment yet they've been successful in their methods. Every team in the Premiership can play decent football and at times they do but sometimes you have to play to your strengths to be successful and win games.
I've seen quite a few Everton games this season and although they're not the prettiest side to watch I enjoy watching them play. They're not afraid to play the long ball up field for Yakubu to chase and hastle defenders into making making mistakes and I tend to find this more exciting than watching, say, West Brom play about 300 passes whilst going absolutely nowhere.
I think the whole 'beautiful game' thing is going out of the window now and teams just want to win games but whatever means necessary and if clowns like Micheal Calvin (who?) want to try and degrade us because we play to our strengths and are top of the league because of it then let them.
How many times is "This team would struggle in the Premiership" going to be written? We all know we'd have no chance of surviving with this squad if we went up but we're allowed to sign new players before the beginning of next season you daft *****.
So, if you want free-flowing, wonderful football go to, er, erm, where can you go? Spain? Maybe but it's full of big girls flinging themselves to the floor. Italy? I don't think so. Germany? France? Holland? I don't know where you can find it to be honest.
