some of these supposed to be indie trendy bands do better covers on live lounge etc than their actual own songs

some of these supposed to be indie trendy bands do better covers on live lounge etc than their actual own songs I'd hardly call the arctic monkey's a trendy indie band salop. They are just a rock band, plain and simple as that. On the other hand buck o nine 'pass the dutchie', fucking brilliant cover and although i forgot about it initially would probably go down as my number one cover version. Great band, you heard the tune 'calling in sick' and their cover of misfit's 'teenagers from mars'. Classic

A band can't help being portayed the way they are by the media. Take the libertines for instance, all this talk about punk influence etc, the only punk influence i see in them is the fact that doherty is a jumped up clone of johnny thunders without the good looks or rock n roll venom. They to me were the ultimate trendy indie band. The arctic monkeys showed more maturity and a punk ethic in one song than the londoners did in their whole output.

Sandie Shaw's version of The Smiths' "Hand in Glove" is another top cover.

Alex Turner is probably the best song writer of his generation. .. anyway, as for best cover I can't look past Jimi Hendrix 'All along the watchtower'

But there again to be truthful I spend more time listening to older music of many genres these days. Don't care for the charts or many new acts I will leave the new stuff to my kids. However when I jump in the car and the kids ask me to stick I some classic tunes I'm glad that music will live on amongst the "now albums" they listen to

Here's a "Bridge Over Troubled Water" cover from the April 14th show at the Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina, where Presley's usual band – led by guitarist James Burton – was augmented by an orchestra and the Sweet Inspirations, a trio of backing singers. Paul Simon later noted that Presley's rendition of his song was a "touch on the dramatic side." "But so was the song," he added. "When I first heard Elvis perform 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' it was unbelievable. I thought to myself, 'How the hell can I compete with that?'" www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/flashback-elvis-presley-sings-bridge-over-troubled-water-in-1972-20140501
